AdMech Patrol #2 - Progress report

    By Bouargh

Blog entries pass and sometimes look like very similar to some previous ones. It is one of the issues when dealing with army building on base of multiples buy outs of the same Patrol Box...   Yet we might eventually expect some variation if the models are fitted in different fashion, ain´t we?   The Onagre DuneCrawler as already been spoiled in the FOrums, but it has been the major progress of the past week so I will "proudly" republish it there. It is also an unhonorable  wa

    Dakota Minor Defence Corps (PDF)

    By Mike Zulu

Introduction Like many established Imperium worlds, Dakota Minor has a planetary defence force simply known the Dakota Minor Defence Corps (or DMDC). Most of its number are conscripted from the local population; a small number of citizens willingly join to escape the tedium of farm life that is prevalent on Dakota Minor. The DMDC is organised in a manner similar to Astra Militarum regiments, albeit more limited in their makeup. For the most part, it consists of dozens of infantry battalions

The Mystery Begins

Fragment of a document reportedly recovered from the space hulk designated Herald of Misery in M38 by the rogue trader Ibram Subicere: Accompanied by a demi-squad of the Inceptors Chapter, Captain Subicere and his crew aboard the Torchbearer were exploring the Anguis Cluster near the Maelstrom. There they discovered the Herald of Misery. Auspex readings indicated that the vessel was comprised of several major vessels and a number of smaller ones, including a few Imperial vessels and pre-

The Accusers Chapter

The second DIY Chapter I created at the B&C was the Accusers. Actually, that might be an accurate way of describing it. The Accusers may have existed. Or maybe they didn't.   My goal with this chapter was to explore some of the preconceptions of the community. At one point, the size of the 2nd Founding was set in stone, as defined by the Apocrypha of Skaros. Though many hobbyists tried to shoehorn their DIY chapter into that founding, conventional wisdom was generally to avoid the

Back in to the Trenches!

Well Happy New Years all and well the first post of the New Year will be #125.    Well as I proceed down the path of the Long Vigil, I keep thinking of the basing scheme I want to do for my  Deathwatch.  I could continue with my base schemes:   Urbans: Shown on my Grey Knights    On My Skitarii Marshall (WIP)   Exorcists Scout Squad Shu'kar   54th Psian Jakals   My Horus Heresy Ravenguard    Temple

Honor Shield of Brule Onathemes (the Spear-Slayer)

The Avenging Lions chapter sends battle-brothers to the Legio [Bolter & Chainsword]. One of the battle-brothers that has been seconded to the Legio over the millennia of the chapter's existence was Brule Onathemes, known as the Spear-Slayer.   Brule Onathemes Pict capture in 709.M39 upon secondment to the Legio Bolter & Chainsword   Formerly a battle-brother of the 3rd Tactical Squad, 5th Company, Brule was awarded the Imperial Laurel for his valor during th

Still in the Past, But Closer.....Commissions 2023

And here we are 18 months later and all of 2023 to cover....   Kicking off 2023 was actually a minor expansion of 2022's big commission. It consisted of 1 Necron Overlord, and a whole stack more of terrain, and took up the entirety of January to complete.     Next up was Dystopian Wars commission for a USA Fleet in a striking Red, White and Blue scheme, consisting of 25 Ships. These started out fine, but ended up turning into a 8 month long ordeal (The initial quo

2024 - Year in Review - Sin Eaters

2024 - YEAR IN REVIEW THE SIN EATERS   My first major project on returning to the hobby - well, the first once I liked enough to stick with properly - finally hit that all-important 2,000 point mark earlier this year. It's currently 2,070, meaning I can swap out a character as required, as I did this last weekend in a final spurt of tabletop play for the year. I'll go into the individual units in a moment, but just at a top-level, I'm very happy with these chaps. The Crusade, thou

The Avenging Lions Chapter

The first DIY chapter I ever created here at the B&C, and still my favorite, is the Avenging Lions. This chapter was inspired by several things: There aren't enough chapters that use brown as their main color. No one has any right to tell anyone else that they can't create a successor chapter of the Black Templars. No one has any right to tell anyone else that they must use the Index Astartes article format. I suppose I was being a bit contrarian in creating this chap

Teaching Kids 40k

Well after a furious build session this weekend, I was able to build the my son's Hand of Khaine Kill Team consisting of 10 Striking Scorpions and 5 Dire Avengers, and need to get him 5 Howling Banshees.     to go against his brother's Death Guard     and his other brothers's Hierotek Circle which I need to get him a box of Immortals/ Deathmark (2 Gauss Blaster, 1 Tesla Carbine, and 2 Deathmarks) plus other 2 Characters; Chronomancer and Psychomancer.

An introduction (of sorts)

I'm not nearly as active either in the hobby or here on the Bolter and Chainsword as I would like to be, or even as much as I used to be. Such is life. However, I have plans to increase my hobby activity. We'll see if Fate wills those plans to be...   If you're wondering about the image I chose for this blog post, those are the minis that got me into the game - the Space Elves. They became the Eldar, and are now the Aeldari. While I love the craftworlders, I have always loved the merce

12 Months of Hobby 2024 - a Closing Report

Hi Folks,   As year ends, I keep on going a summary of these 12 past months and their contribution to my Bitz box managment and Pile of Shame reduction. The 12 Months of Hobby Challenge is and has been a great incentive to keep on working on projects on a regular basis, without being too distracted by the "Last-in, First-out syndrom". It helps keeping the momentum on stuff left aside for too long.     Here is the summary:   January The year started o

The Crusade (and Narrative) Continues...

The 40k Campaign I'm running is now at its half way point, and the first part is concluded. This part of the campaign was focused on the Orbital Array that is a lynch pin of the Forge World where the campaign is set.    My Marines haven't done great to be honest - winning only one out of seven games  - but there's been some exciting narrative developments along the way, such as Necrons opening a wormhole to siphon Tyranids from the Octarius Sector directly on to the Array!

Mustering some Drukhari - How to get to 1k pts?

Hi Folks,   I have been giving a though on how to make my Drukhari Pile-of-Shame a playable force - with a 1000 pts target. My force has been gathered initially with an Ynnari only focus: getting that deep striking touch and late objective grabber tactics available to complete an Ynnari force that is mainly Guardian built.   For that I invested into a Combat Patrol box that gives a nice all round unt selection with cool deep striking vehicles. On this core I added 2 unit

Another look in the rear-mirror - a 2024 Hobby productivity report

Hi folks,   As year comes to an end, I spent some time having a look at this year productivity. In terms of hobby time and painted miniatures, it has been quite a busy and productive year. I did not realized until this very moment I started scrolling down back in time in my posts.   The list of milestones has been largely animated by the 12 Months of Hobby Challenge and the CtA2024. Let´s dive in.   What counts but does not count as: We are going

Did that just happen............

Ok this was not planned... I swear.    So I have been focused on my switching my paints to Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic series and Friday after work I went to 2 of my LGS. First Store I did not get paint but walked out with Watch Captain Artemis and a box of Deathwatch Veterans. Then I went to next store to pick up my online order for paints and picked up more paints. Friday night, I built the sub assemblies for the veterans and converted Artemis due to the cable was short and slappe

Kabalites for my Ynnari - Unless they ride on their own

Hi folks,   It has been a long time since posting anything there. End of yeqr has been complicated and full of work overload. And 2025 is going to start this a similar tumultous pattern, but this will be discused another time.   After a hiatus of 4 weeks, for flu and then for spending time painting dwarves for the World that Was, I finally resumed the painting of my Kabalite reinforcement for Ynnari. I did the bodies and I had left apart the heads and weapons + the final

2024 - Year in Review - Summary

2024 - YEAR IN REVIEW SUMMARY - ALL FINISHED MODELS Oh, hi Goose!   I’ve had a pretty good year for painting, and a decent one for actually playing some 40k! The Sin Eaters hit 2,000 points and finished up their Crusade, I started – and eventually completed about 1,500 points worth of – Tau, largely thanks to the Call to Arms, painted up a large BFG fleet, and started work on a second Xenos Army with my Eldar bikes.    That is, for me, a LOT of models. 151, at

Am I really switching to Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic?

Since buying the following army painter bundles on Black Friday at mt LGS   Fantatic mega set    Fantatic Metallics    I purchased a few more sets online   Fanatic Washes   Fanatic Most Wanted   then while dealing with a slight depression due to a family issue and at LGS  I purchased these   Wargames Mega Brush Set    IMHO I think the fanatic line is great.  Dropper bottle, shaker bottle

Reinforcing the Hammer, the preface

Wow, It is December already.....    As I look toward 2025, I am thinking what the future holds in the Terms of the Hobby.  I know part of the Hobby will be going to Warhammer World (and maybe a stop at Element Games has been suggested) in April/ May 2025 as part of my honeymoon excursion across England, Scotland and Ireland. The wife and I are discussing turning Office/ Hobby area into a spiritual room/ Library/ Office and moving hobby area to garage, which means garage remodel which m
