    Wrapping Wreckas

    By zulu.tango

Hit the throttle on the Wreckas last week. I've been painting pretty slowly this year all things considered, decided to change that with this project. Finished up free-hand on a few items, got the squigs painted up, did the bases and oil washes last week resulting in a final project I'm pretty happy with!    I dug out some of the leftover terrain bits I had from the sector imperialis/Chalnath terrain. I put a fine terrain paste around those bits and then put in some sand to act as larg

    XIVth Legion build

    By W.A.Rorie

So am I back from Indiana. I have to head back to move In-Laws into a Retirement Center, in a few weeks. And of course everything goes sideways at work moment I get back. So hobby time has been non existence. Silver Lining is LGS not get Saturnine until Monday, so I can get everything I need to do first i.e. my XIXth Legion and Exorcists  Call to Arms Vows, that I have not started. And won't have time this weekend.   I did start on building one of My XIVth Legion Commanders, not sure w

    Jagieŀŀo inspects their prizes

    By GSCUprising

The Resistance have finally captured the war machines they believe they require to make their stand.   Brutus, the Malcador, reliable, dependable the spine of their battleline. She will not fail them. She will hold the line, her battlecannon roaring, her sponsons blazing as she paves the way for the Resistance's advance. The Iron Duke, his twin Earthshaker cannons blasting holes in the enemy's fortifications. He guards those retreating and the wounded behind his massive blast shield

Hi Folks,   Today’s blog entry is a little bit specific as it deals with something different from my usual inputs: instead of reporting hobbying progress, I will talk about a trail I did for a new technique (à la TITH – i.e. something that is not new in general but new for me).     The technique is often reported on purpose of adding details and create battle damages or war-torn marks on miniatures. But beyond painting damages, the sponge might be used on purpose of

Niklas Raymi - Ordo Machinum Inquisitor - High Xenophobe.

Hi folks,   I am still working on my bitz box cleaning. While I have focused on the major volumes (Paretto approach) in the initial stages, while I get closer from the end of the pile, I have changed my scheduling approach, working on some small, sometimes self standing, miniatures. I have for example a lonely Ork, a ooP CSM Raptor sergeant… and parts of the original Cypher miniature. Parts as I miss the plasma pistol and the back-pack. The latter has been used on a SM kitbashed Chapla

Adeptus Bricklayer

Hi folks,   A small insight on my plodding along vow for 12 MoH 2026. among the uncontrolled growths of this project it is worth mentionning the addition of a set of second hand Ryza pattern ruins. These I believe were initially released in Moon Base Klaissus (or is it Kassius?) . They have been then sold as a separate boxed set (latter reworled and lossing some parts such as the barricade with briken door and the sas entry) and finally re-released through the Hachette suscription.

Many out of Few - something else for my plodding along

Hi Folks,   After cutting in two an armoured container for my 12 MoH plodding along pledge, I stroke again. Lastentry was a kind of first time for me using med gauze as cammo net:   Two out of One – something for my plodding along - Bouargh´s miniatures´ closet clean-up - The Bolter and Chainsword   I've repeated the experiment but this time multiplying small stuffs into bigger deposits. The first test was with crates, that were simulated by styfoam block with

Training Day Part 2

So once again I used the new FLGS Learn to Play/Combat Patrol day to teach another vic… player how to play via Combat Patrol. They took Strike Force Octavius so instead of using my newly completed Medusan Redoubt I used the Vanghast Swarm to go classic mode.    Medusan Redoubt (IF edition)     I split the termaguants up, had the barbguants and a termaguant unit hold home while the rest readied to surge forward. Opponent placed the terminators with the captain in re

Something new...

I'm a member of Yaktribe because I occasionally mess about with Necromunda and for a long time it was the default organizational tool for that game. Now, I mainly hang out in their hobby boards because I can post about my minis that aren't 40k. They have periodic contests of differing topics and this latest one was Hallowed and Haunted: make something that is sacred, uncanny, or cursed. I had some leftover models and decided to wipe something up- in this case an Ash Wastes scavenger and his hire

Small Nightbringer update

Got the bits for the Nightbringer, but decided I wanted to up my game a little bit. So instead of just the Purple Sun floating with the puzzle/blackstone bits, I will take one of the Convergence of Dominion steles and use it as a base. Canted at an angle, I think it will sell the whole "C'tan that broke free" that my Necron stuff is going for. Plus, found some old FW scarabs that should make good basing material as well. Both of those are going to be shipped to me in the next couple of weeks and

New Training Grounds

New Training Grounds   IRL work seems to be picking up so entries will be sporadic for a bit. I got some more hobbying done.    So I finished the what mantis Warriors I pieced together. I’m actually out of basic Intercessors, still have plenty of assault and heavy left, but no basic. I was thinking of grabbing a box with my tax refund, but the reveals put a bolt round in that idea. Still it can wait.   Vengeful Brethren (Mantis Warriors/Ultramarines) Al

Weekly Update #6

Work has been busy these past few weeks, so didn’t have time to write up much. Also no pictures this entry cause I need to take them.   Over the weekend I pivoted on the projects, switching from CSM/Orks to marines. Just felt like painting up my Hellblasters for my UM 5th that I have in the background. This did remind me I had 5 hellblasters in the colour of the Mantis Warriors. So wanting to do something different and have a wargear correct Gravis captain I built a spare I had with th

Inquisitorial supervisor

Hi Folks.   After my recent addition of Imperial agents units (Rogue trader retinue, Breachers and Inquisitorial retinues) I have decided to close the loop and add an inquisitor model to this group so that I might eventually field a cohesive and coherent force, either as a stand alone army with some (old) DW units, or as allied in Imperial forces. Among the various options that were opened for selection I had identified some ooP models on ebay, all in the same range of prices (mor

Weekly Update #5

So now working on both the Ork and Chaos patrols at the same time cause the lining on these marines are causing me headaches.    I did get the Dark apostle, warboss (mostly), a boy and the Turox done.      I;m going to start placing magnets in the bases of these like I did with my nids so they will be easy to carry in the maglock system I have been swapping to.  Also planning to set up a sort of display later as I'm going to start working on my den

Hard Lessons

Got in a few games of Combat Patrol over the weekend. Local CP league seems to have cooled off, but still had a few opponents. The manager managed to rope in a pair of spearhead players (they forgot which sunday was spearhead/CP) into doing games since I had 6 with me that day. They choose Octavius and the Assault Brood. I took on the Tyranid player with Vengeful Brethren. Forward position was the mission of the day. Now my opponent plays Tyranids as well, so they had decent knowledge of the gam

Thunderhawk round 2 part 3

Well thats thunderhawk 2 me 0. Managed to get a nice red base coat on through the airbrush. Masked up the wings to do the black details and there was no paint coming out the airbrush. So I disassembled the air brush and the nozzle was so jammed up only about 1/3 of the needle was showing through the nozzle! So after a bit of cleaning I returned to the thawk, sprayed over what i had masked out, removed the tape and.... paint seepage! I left some lovely tape lines aswell. I tried to sand thes

Painting Bunker Bingo 2026 - Planning attempt

Hi folks,   After a couple of months since the launch of this challenge in the dedicated Club area, I feel like it is now the time to put some planification inside.       I have started just like this, without much planning than “find-some-unit-to-fill-the-card”. It might be just fine but it is a little bit going by the blind way. So I’ve made an inventory of my backlog which is likely to be included. This year my main plan is to deplete my back log from all the ti

A start....sort of

Hello all. I decided to start another blog, this time to chart out my progress for stuff that isn't currently my Night Lords or Votann. Since I have quite a few other armies/projects, I figure that rather than create new blogs for all of them I'll consolidate them into one. I will still have my various threads for the complete minis (Word Bearers, Necrons, Primaris), but since those threads are all typically about complete models/fluff, this will be where my weird ideas come to bloom.

Weekly Update #4

So no battle report this week. The combat patrol league is every other week at the local store.    So I started on the chaos marines. Doing a modified Black Legion scheme. I’m hoping to get these done somewhat fast. I haven’t gotten their scheme full worked out in my head. Even with it mostly being by the book i have to paint a few to get it down and be able to assembly line paint it.     Here are the Death Riders, pictures not that great, sorry, but they are battle

Thunderhawk round 2 part 2

Managed to get a decent prime coat on the thawk today aswell as priming a necron lord and chaos lord. It was interesting to see the difference between the black and grey primer going through the air brush, the thawk had  2 coats of grey whilst the necron and chaos lords only needed the one black undercoat in my opinion.  Both primers are vallejo thinned 2 primer :1 thinner with a couple of drops of flow improver. The black went down beautifully and as I said the grey needed a bit of going over.

Thunderhawk round 2 part 1

I had a stab at painting this thunderhawk previously with an air brush (my first time using one) and things did not go well!! So after a few days of soaking in floor cleaner and scrubbing with a tooth brush I think it's time for another go. Plan is to re prime it with vallejo grey primer as this stuff seems to go on smooth and very thin, much nicer than the halfords auto primer rattle cans that I have used for most of my guys to date! I love the way forgeworld have painted their full size one an

Tactical Marine

I've had a box of blood angels tactical marines that I have been painting up for a while now. This is the 10th and last one all done (finally!!) I've tried to go for an old but well maintained look, painting the chest decoration and other accessories in a weathered brass sort of style. I'm not a big fan of gems on armour so I painted these as brass aswell as I like the idea of decoration but not done in expensive or valuable materials as whats the point if its getting shot at!? I would like to a

Culling the Horde

Was able to make it to the CP league at my local GW and got in some Combat Patroi over the weekend. Got in two games, one against a veteran and the second was a training game versus a new player.  Both games I rolled a die to decide which CP I would use of the three I had with me.    First up was a nid on nid bout. Insidious Infiltrators vs my Assault Brood. My opponent set up on three of the objective points due to their force all having Infiltrate. I put the parasite in reserve and t

Two out of One – something for my plodding along

Hi Folks,   This year my 12 MoH pledge includes a plodding along pledge again. Last year was too busy and frantic to consider any possible commitment in a long-term project. But 2026 is (so far) allowing projecting oneself in a (relative) stability. From there come the idea of an excavation site as a series of scenery elements.   My Plodding along vow is structured around the MTO scenery ordered last Xmas: Tectonic Drill (oh yeah) and Mechanicum crane (Servohaulers). In order

12 MoH - Cliffhanger

Hi Folks,   As another installment of this Series for my 12 MoH Plodding along pledge, I have completed the painting of my first pieces of scenery: the Rocky concretion and a Fairy Chimney.   The Styfoam once carved and plastered/textured, has received locally some additional layers of sand and gravel to mimic accumulated ashes and rock debris.   Painting step included a hue made from 2 different colors: dark grey and brownish grey, both from DIY store. The dark gre

Weekly Update #3

Weekly Update #3   Ok, so going to swap the updates from Thursday to Monday cause CP league is on Sunday and it gives me the weekend to get more stuff done.    Right now nothing much. Guardians are done, will get picture after CP is done fully since it was just some minor fixes from last week’s picture. It might be a while since in double checking I can’t find the riders for two of the bikes. I don’t want to take from the new sprues, so will continue looking for a while longe

Terrain. Should I?

So what I wanna say. I need terrain. Somehow I'd overlooked this fact when painting my little dudes and murderous lizards. I have boarding action set, yeap. But. BUT! Baneblade shooting Carnifex on other side of little wall is surreal. Also test game shows that even mostly infantry armies  couldn't fight properly on such table.    Now I need to build( I think it's preferable option) or buy( even gakky terrain set cost fortune for what you get, not speaking of GW's). Big plus of former
