    Wrapping Wreckas

    By zulu.tango

Hit the throttle on the Wreckas last week. I've been painting pretty slowly this year all things considered, decided to change that with this project. Finished up free-hand on a few items, got the squigs painted up, did the bases and oil washes last week resulting in a final project I'm pretty happy with!    I dug out some of the leftover terrain bits I had from the sector imperialis/Chalnath terrain. I put a fine terrain paste around those bits and then put in some sand to act as larg

    Square Pants Bob

    By Bouargh

Hi Folks,   Today’s blog entry is a little bit specific as it deals with something different from my usual inputs: instead of reporting hobbying progress, I will talk about a trail I did for a new technique (à la TITH – i.e. something that is not new in general but new for me).     The technique is often reported on purpose of adding details and create battle damages or war-torn marks on miniatures. But beyond painting damages, the sponge might be used on purpose of

    Jagieŀŀo inspects their prizes

The Resistance have finally captured the war machines they believe they require to make their stand.   Brutus, the Malcador, reliable, dependable the spine of their battleline. She will not fail them. She will hold the line, her battlecannon roaring, her sponsons blazing as she paves the way for the Resistance's advance. XIVth Legion build

    By W.A.Rorie

So am I back from Indiana. I have to head back to move In-Laws into a Retirement Center, in a few weeks. And of course everything goes sideways at work moment I get back. So hobby time has been non existence. Silver Lining is LGS not get Saturnine until Monday, so I can get everything I need to do first i.e. my XIXth Legion and Exorcists  Call to Arms Vows, that I have not started. And won't have time this weekend.   I did start on building one of My XIVth Legion Commanders, not sure w

Planning second half of the year 2026

Hi Folks,   After a summer break (I would say “well deserved”, yet due to the consecutive heatwaves and wildfires, I would not pretend I’ve capitalized any rest on these 2 weeks off duty…), it is time to resume my hobby part. I am currently at 5 models for completing my CtA 2026 pledge. And as I still have a few armored containers, a tectonic fragdrill and 2 Armigers knights in the waiting line, I may eventually fill another pledge right after that.   Yet my backlog has

Angels of Death: Sergeant

And the sergeant is ready. I slightly changed the color scheme by removing two unnecessary (as it seems to me) colors.  Overall, I'm happy with the result, except for the helmet. Red is a really finicky color for me. I'm left with an unused captain that I don't want to use in the kill team. I'll try to make a blood angel out of him.

The King

Yellow. Yellow is the king of the color scheme. This is a king with character who does not tolerate violation of his rules.  There can only be one king, which means he won't tolerate another shade of yellow (or you'll get a neon sign instead of armor).  Every king rules by force and the king's strength lies in his army - in the base coat.  If it is bad, incomplete, or does not match in shade, it will not help its king in any way. The right shade and value of the base coat allow th

Old vs New MKII

Old vs New Been a while, but here we are again. I think I got burnt out a little rushing the Armaggeddon marines so haven’t been doing much on the ork side. I did get in a CP game yesterday. They only had the old Eyes of Ultramar set, which doesn’t have 11th edition rules. They had the datacards so I just assigned them the DA mission so we had different missions for the game.    We fought on map B, I forward placed the Captain, vanguard and landspeeder. The librarian lead the inte

New painting handle

Finally, the new miniature holder has arrived. This is Chaos G-maker pro. It's a Chinese brand, but very good Chinese. The handle is wooden and varnished. The center is anodized aluminum, and the turntable is 3D printed. The set includes two rotary tables: magnetic and on an axis. I also ordered an addition for small details and an addition for the background. It came to $28 with shipping.  It's heavy and fits very comfortably in your hand. The finger rest can be rotated to suit your needs.

Angels of Death: Heavy intercessor and the values

Ok, assault intercessors drunk a lot of my blood and nerves while I trying shoot them with proper level of detail AND the same colors I see on them and put on them.  Hysterical googling gives nothing except few photography guidelines which ain't help cause my phone camera has almost no settings. After some more research I found solution thanks to book published in 1937... It's about painting scenery. But it's helps.  If applied to our hobby, main thing is average value. And since minia

Angels of Death: grenadier assault intercessor

I rested yesterday and now I'm ready for a next project. It's linked with dread. While I'm working on the dread I was focused on NMM. In this project I want to learn more about values and color saturation.  I use same recipe for yellow, though I add neutral grey into pallet for colors desaturation.   Here is Assault intercessor grenadier. Since killteam starter doesn't had one I kitbashed him using his own hand. I cut off his bolted and glued together two Cadian castellan's chains

Venerable End

So, that yellow guy is done.  It's great model, though I don't wanna paint anything big for some time.  Finished glow and put remaining metal all around.

Job's a Mid'Un

I was thinking a month ago that I haven't painted a proper sized Knight in over a year and got a hankering to try out one of the new Destriers because they have some pretty useful abilities for 11th ed (Ignores Cover + Towering, good movement, etc...). So I got one and have now built it up, including keeping the hatch on top open. Normally I wouldn't, but my FLGS is doing a painting competition at the end of the month and one the two categories is Big Guy: a model with a base of 50mm or larger.

Venerable IV/V: Steel

Right arm is glued on it's place. Finished ammo box and added some metals on leg. After the horror of barrels other parts are going smooth.  Im add metals in different styles gloss, matt, damaged, dark, light. Tbh it would be faster just make him with one approach, but this "project " is more like training model. Next would be painted parts like barely above ammo box and I'll switch to power fist which I don't know how to paint  i. Worn and torn metal on fingers and armor

Venerable III/V: Heat

That was easy. I've expected it would turns some horrible brush fencing on tips of barrels but it's turns pretty easy. I coat it black. Once it  dries put few glazes of deep magenta. And wait again. Put some white highlights here and there  and add few glazes of night blue.  And another glaze of magenta on top and sides.  For reference I uses my stove pipe (:

Venerable II/V: chrome

...over and over again expecting... paintjob to change... Ok, Insanity is working just fine. Got result. Barrels looks nice. Now it's need a lot of fixes, secondary reflections like Dread's hull or base elements. It's great experience and challenge.   Would be glad for criticism and feedback.

Venerable I/V: Gun

Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is? Insanity is doing the exact... same thing... over and over again expecting... Something to change... That. Is. Crazy   Looks like I bite more than can chow.  Heh, for some reason I had feeling I'm kind of artist and can do anything I can want. There is 4th attempt to paint cursed Gatling cannon. First 3 are just a mess. Im add base coat, it's all right. Add first layer and it's almost fine, add second and get all ribbed tub

New Patrols

So didn't see that I didn't post my completed Assault Force CP.   Novamarine strike group reporting.   Also i got all the ork side and there for the new ork CP built. Sprayed some of the boys yesterday and will get the rest done tonight,. If I focus I should have these done by next weekend.

Venerable IV: Core

A bit of update. Done with sarcophagus, exhaust and reactor. For sarcophagus I go with a bit bluish steel it's gloss and a bit reflective. At least it's reflect three pegs on the top and white lamp on the right.  For exhaust and reactor i choose a satine finish. I like result but yellow reflections on reactor. Should I make them bigger and run across top edge?  Or leave them as is?  Exhaust is just fine. You see it's metal it's scratched.  Also should I add some tints to

Venerable III: a bit of progress

A little update. I'm finished general work on the dread. Yellow is good enough and now damaged. I won't it be metallic so damage made a la ceramite is visible under the paint.  Now I started metal parts and first is a launcher on the top. I wanna it polished and reflective. It's work fine almost from all directions. As far as it's a game piece, nemesis for my angel of death team so it's should be enough( but I would be glad for honest feedback and criticism, you don't make me afraid)

Job's is a Big'Un - Castellan Knight - Part IV

Hi Folks!   Final entry of this series with a completed tiny titan. Or alike.   The paintjob has finally been quite straight forward and easy to complete. I followed the scheme I have used in previous years for my Styrix freeblade and latter with its 3 Moiraxes minions. Seizing the opportunity of a big bargain, I have added this year 1 Castellan (the star of the day) and 2 Armigers that will need some love soon.   Enough words, here come the beast:

Surviving Armaggeddon

So with the drop of 11th, GW has reworked some of the combat patrols and possibly nuked the rest. I’m hoping not, but at current I will only have four working CPs at time of writing.    The Vengeful Brethren (DA) The Vardenghast Swarm (Tyranid) Bane-Slayer’s Bulwark (votann) Assault Force (SM)   Still under construction is: Dryan Lance (IG) ‘Ardmob (orks)   So these will be the ones I focus on for now. It’s kind of one of the reasons that I didn’t want to

Job's is a Big'Un - Castellan Knight - Part III

Hi Folks,   It is now time to share the armour panels. I have decided to stick to the Eshin grey/Wraithbone combo. No third colour variation with red like on my Moiraxes. I will keep these fancy trends for the Armingers only (and I will have 2 to be painted soon).       The full tilt panoply is bicolored only on most parts. Even if I have been largely inspired by the Korvax scheme when I did my first IK model, I will not, this time, add red stripes on the legs. I wil

Venerable II: The hero of Brax

There's a nice freehands on b&c recently so instead solving errors in my yellow and finishing the dread for CtA I'd wasting time and got tons of fun.    I'd try add simple ribbon with single word   Well, it's looks like I succeed and then Mr. I can do better in me start wasting even more time. It's not like it's something new I just paint NMM on flat surface so ... Good experience and fun to do.   "Mommy, Mommy look! I'm painturh!"   "Ok, Timmy,

Sons of Horus Green

After undercoating and pre-weathering everything got a good coat of gloss varnish, followed by AK Worn Effects.   Once you put paint on top of the Worn Effects you need to give it about 30-60 minutes for the paint to get tacky.  Then using brushes, water and an old tooth brush you can remove some of the paint - in my case reveal the undercoat in selected area.  If anyone wants to try this you must use the gloss varnish underneath, of you don't you'll burn the undercoat off too.

Venerable

Here we have yellow horror and not the Red terror. Now I'm working on redemptor for Imperial fists. Yellow. Yellow is my favorite color to look at but not to paint.  The plan is simple. Clear, bright yellow to orange gradient and NMM steel for all but armour.    There is very little progress so far. I'd blocked flat panels. Put base colours for steel and waste a lot of time painting little stupid landscape in reflection on leg . And it's looks like my phone have issues w
