Skip to a month... Welcome to the 5th year of the 12 Months of Hobby Challenge. I started this challenge in 2019 to keep me motivated throughout the year, and to help me stick to my Hobby goal of completing *at least* one model per month. In 2019 I developed a series of Randomizer Tables are still available for this year, and you are most welcome to use them yourselves, or ask to put on the Randomizer List, and I will roll for everyone on the list a week prior to the new month. If you've missed the previous years Challenges, you can find them here, 2019 - 2019 Summary - Additional Awards - 2019 Favourite - 2019 Favourite Poll 2020 - 2020 Summary - Additional Awards - 2020 Favourite - 2020 Favourite Poll - The Campaign Summary 2021 - 2021 Summary - Additional Awards - 2021 Favourite - 2021 Favourite Poll 2022 - 2022 Summary - Additional Awards - 2022 Favourite - 2022 Favourite Poll 2023 - 2023 Summary - Additional Awards - 2023 Favourite - 2023 Favourite Poll As with last year, I'd like some company, if you'd like to join me with a commitment to 1x model (or more) per month for the 12 months of 2023, I'd love to have you along. The Rules are pretty simple; I DO NOT expect you to use the Random Tables, you are more than welcome to pledge models towards your existing armies, or choose a model you would like to complete. Multiple model pledges are fine, but ONLY ONE *must* be finished per month to "complete" the Challenge for the Month. A starting pic is required. Any model that is incomplete, even those that only require basing, are eligible for this Challenge. A finished pic is also required, this MUST be completed to your standards, AND the model MUST be based. If you know what you'd like to pledge, pop this pip in your signature, then pledge in the following format, you'll need to vow each month you wish to participate, I, { Insert your name } , embark on the 12 Months of Hobby Challenge, and for the month of { insert correct month } pledge to complete { insert the model/s to be completed } by month's end. Each month will feature a selection of Awards, The Completed Badge is awarded for Completing 1+ model for the month. The Seriously Badge is awarded for Completing 5+ models in a month The Artificer Badge is arbitrarily awarded to models I find impressive each month The Speed Daemon is awarded for Completing a model within 24hrs The Last Minute Badge is awarded for Completing your vow on the last day of the month The Overtime Badge is awarded for Completing your vow on the 1st or 2nd of the following month The Stubborn Badge is awarded for Completing a previous vowed but uncompleted model The Favourite is awarded for my top pick each month You may make up to two Plodding Along Vows for the year, one for the first six months, and one for the second six months. These are intended for larger, multiple month projects, or an Army goal for the year. All badges will upgrade Black, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, as they are earned multiple times. If you know what you're going to paint, then jump right in and click HERE to skip the Randomizer Tables, and make your pledge below. *IF* , however, you would like to use the tables, you'll need 2D6. You are not bound to your rolls, If you're not feeling it, re-roll Re-Roll any duplicates, either Faction OR Sub-faction (if you want to). Feel free to choose a Faction / Sub Faction and roll on their chart. I am more than happy to roll for anyone wishing to participate, please notify me if you'd like to be added to the Randomizer Tables list and I'll roll for everyone on the list in the last week of the month for the coming month. These are intended for larger, multiple month projects, or an Army goal for the year. All badges will upgrade Black, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, as they are earned multiple times. Last year saw the introduction of the Challenge+ mini-challenge, I did not complete mine, and will continue it this year, so it is open for others to continue theirs, or for people to start fresh. Challenge+ features four, 3 Month long Challenges, one each for the four Quarters of the year. The first Challenge, running from January to December is the What if? Challenge. If you choose to take up this Challenge, you will be creating (kind of) a custom unit for the game. You will need to take an existing unit entry from one Codex, and shoe-horn it into another. For example, I will be doing; What if the Tau weren't incompetent in Close Quarters Combat? What if they had an Assault Intercessor type unit? Once you have chosen your unit swap, you will need to complete two tasks, the first is to re-name the unit with a suitable name for the new Faction, as well as any Wargear and Special Abilities they may have. Secondly you will need to model and paint a single model from your created unit. Please keep the units to infantry sized models, no Tanks or Independent Characters. Please choose different proper Factions, please don't do What if? Dark Angels had this Blood Angels unit, or Space Wolves unit etc. The second Challenge Copy Cat, running from April to December, is a little easier. You must choose one of the other What if? entries and model a single model from that new unit. The third Challenge, Wordsmith, running from July to December requires a small short story of an interaction (peaceful, or not...) between the two models / units you have completed in the What if? and Copy Cat Challenges. I'm not going to put a word limit on these, but think 300 - 500 words or so (I won't be counting though). The fourth and final Challenge, running from October to December is to place the two models you have created, onto / into a scenic diorama base, showing or referencing details from the Wordsmith Challenge. I recommend looking at a 80mm or 90mm base for this, as I've found 60mm a little crowded. Lastly for anyone who manages to complete all four Challenges by Years End, the Challenge+ Veteran Badge will be awarded. The Challenges should be completed in order, however, as you can see from the timing of each Challenge, once the Challenge has started it remains open for the rest of the year to allow newcomers to pick up the Challenge+ challenges if they so desire. When you pledge to a Challenge+ challenge, or complete a Challenge+ challenge, please place the correct badge from above into your post for easier identification so that I don't miss anything. I will re-post the badges with each new month for ease of access. If you know what you're going to paint, then jump right in and click HERE to skip the Randomizer Tables, and make your pledge below. *IF* , however, you would like to use the tables, you'll need 2D6. Embarking into 12 Months of Hobby
Bouargh posted a blog entry in Bouargh´s miniatures´ closet clean-up
Hi Folks, As I am looking to a good way to maintain my motivation, it looks like the 12 Months of Hobby Challenge is an kind of answer to it. Getting to stick to monthly objectives, with 12 small or limited projects and the option of 2 big ones might be a good structure to keep on cleaning the remains of my Pile of Shame. Which might eventually, although haviong shrunk a lot lately, start to grow again. Shall we put it into perspective with what remains for my Pile of Shame and my 2024 WishList, I guess the firsts months will be structured around what is already waiting to be painted. I have some choice here: 3 IG heavy weapon teams 5 ooP Rhino Chassis Some left spore mines One kit bashed Carnaudon One kit bashed LR 2 ooP EPIC titans some ooP EPIC SM Legion Boxes 1 ooP EPIC Levithan some ooP EPIC Squats Boxes 1 Engine Seer The Carnaudon needs its turret to be redone fully and the kit Bashed LR looks dull, so it has some huge Plasticard work to start to look like something shoeboxed (yes, it can be possible getting a LR shoeboxier than the genuine shoebox). Might be a perfect pollding/6 month a project for later in the year. EPIC... Well, I am not convinved by my paint schemes and habilñities at this 6 mm scale. I still need to practice a little bit. As I have some projects in mind for the Seer and the HW, it leaves me ATM only the Rhinos. ...Interesting selection process... We played heads and tails with my daughter so that she innocently selected the models to forego the repainting/transformation first. From these 5 chassis, it left apart (for the moment) the Vindicator and the Predator, as well as the oldest Rhino (the first mini I painted ever for 40k). I will start with the 2 remaining Rhinos, which by the way, are tooled up in the same way. Here are the starting pictures of these 2 models, base coated in grey. Let´s go with my standard paint scheme for SW. More to be shared later, once some progress will be achieved to be worth being shown. PS: Oh! And of course the required pledge: I, Bouargh, embark on the 12 Months of Hobby Challenge, and for the month of January 2024 pledge to complete 2 Rhinos by month's end. -
Hey everyone, welcome to my hobby thread! If you're looking for one of the colour scheme tutorials from my 'March of the Legions' project or one of the basing tutorials, please check the bottom of this post for all of the relevant links. If you can't find what you're looking for or if you have a question that's not answered in the relevant post, please feel free to send me a private message. Regards, Kizzdougs. For more regular updates check out my Instagram account @raptorimperialis I've recently been feeling the urge to start a new 40K project. After much musing and many false starts, i've decided on the Thousand Sons, Pre-heresy. They aren't my favourite legion or chapter but the TS have always be a legion full of character, imagery and conversion opportunities. A perfect combination in my opinion. This project has been at least two years in the planning process. It all started when i converted a PH TS sorcerer for a conversion competition at my local GW (which i was lucky enough to win). After building the Sorcerer i knew i had to make some more TS, they are just so fun and different. Unfortunately it has taken me over two years to finally get here. The Sorcerer who started it all. He is a relatively simple kit bash with minimal GS work. I took inspiration from the Thousand Sons art in 'Collected Vissions', especially that of Ahriman and Uthizarr. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/photo-3.jpg The test mini. I used bits from several kits to build this terminator, the majority are from the GK terminator kit and the Tomb Guard kit (WHFB). http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0290.jpg?t=1313302289 With crest added. I can't decide whether to give all the terminators these crests or just keep them for the squad leaders. Any opinions and suggestions are welcome. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0291.jpg?t=1313302233 http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0292.jpg?t=1313302169 A close up of the force weapon. Such a simple conversion but i'm fairly happy with how it turned out. Sorry about the bad lighting. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0289.jpg?t=1313302359 Hopefully this project will develop and progress at a not too slow pace (fingers crossed). I plan on adding some Sisters of Silence and maybe even some Custodes at a later stage. I'm certainly feeling the necessary inspiration at the moment. Any and all suggestions and advice are more than welcome, as are questions and queries. 12 Months of Hobby 2024 - a progress report #1
Bouargh posted a blog entry in Bouargh´s miniatures´ closet clean-up
Hi folks, After some down times in painting activities due to primer shortage, I finally found some Vallejo cans in the last place I would I though: a scrap booking store. The kid went out with some "Paint by numbers" set and I with some cans. And with a 10% discount vs. modeling stores. So, time to resume painting activity. With all this primer, I have been able to initiate my Feb vow. Both Mago and Epic Reaver were primed and dry brushed in bolt gun metal. I then applied all the basic colours to the Mago plus the associated lavishes and dry brushing. This one will undergo detailling nw and might be completed in a few days. As for the Titan, well, I am still stuggling into selecting colours. And what about the plodding along? First the Bheta Decima set: Ferratonic furnace is done. I used the same livery as for some other silos I have, in order to stack them into a coherent 3 levels tower. So Incubi darkness as main colour. The round platform has been as boring to paint as I remembered from the previous gantries I did previously. But the final look is rather OK and the assembly is rather smooth. I anticipated some issues, but it resulted being all the contrary: setting these round platforms is rather OK. Sure, I would not put any metallic mini on the peripheral ring, but with current plastics it is fine. Objectives are done. Quick and dirty. But they have a rather good outlook on the mat. Pillars are primed. These will come next. (see footnote 1) Second, the Ork Mekboy workshop: The 3 piles of scrap are done. 1 3 out of the 3 barricades are done. and the 2 remaining ones are at 80% It has been a rather proefficient week and I might slow down a little bit. Next milestone will be selecting a paint scheme for the ryza pattern STC buildings. I will try on a derelict wall first. I will let you know. Yet, as always, if you have some recomendations for a paint scheme for the latter, you are welcomed. Indeed the Ryza Pattern Bunkers are rather common (due to their inclusion in Hachette sprues as ruins or as building in starter sets) yet I do not find much pics on the internet (a.k.a. the ultimate inspiration source...) - other than grey... See you soon. Footnote 1: Did you notice any quality site subtly introduced as a background reference?-
