  1. This is just an idea toss - I was combobulating with another frater of some repute (unlike myself) about trying to follow up on a long dormant discussion (I didn't want to necro it, and by rights this is worthy of its own thread), regarding improvement of participation in the RPG Nook, and by extension a few other aspects of this 'niche' hobby. One of the proposals from our noble fraternity, was a series of strategies to help break down a few barriers to enlarging our player and potentially GM base. They can be found here and are well worth a read, as well as the posts regarding visibility. What I'd like to do is set up a themed open club, which is a function where we might be able to finally combine a lot of ideas that don't quite fit into the structure of the forum and also provides a special projects setting, much like the Cabal Of Dead Ink (hence the dazzlingly named thread title). Apart from gathering character or RPG game related fanfic, artwork and model builds (been banging on about this for a while now), one of the primary functions would be to develop/formulate a stripped-down ruleset (primarily for Deathwatch, but other RPG's are available) in an almost One-Page-Rules type thing. This, ideally would result in a few pregen characters, which a prospective player can just bolt their own stuff onto (Chapter, history, etc) with a few perks and sparkles, where RP is more valuable than crunch, having armour histories and the like be cosmetic only. There would be one or two scenarios providing, as Apologist suggested, an entry and exit point with defined goals and objectives. To speed up play, we could include some rules from Black Crusade and Dark Heresy 2.0 (re: actions) and the maps provided in certain starter adventures. Keeping it enemy/sector neutral could provide for easy flavouring and replays, perhaps with a 'rogue's gallery' to accompany it. On top of this, the games (Deathwatch at least) would be announced in the News, possibly Amicus and Space Marine subforums. They would run for a couple of weeks, perhaps every month or other month depending on the availability of GM's. The Rules could be bundled together as a PDF for download, in the same way as Convention Open Table games. As it progresses, this could possibly tap into the Liber, our sister forum, and expand any personal works or articles there (and vice versa). Whilst this is not currently the focus of this project, it should be considered future planning to increase engagement and improve visibility. Thoughts?
  2. I'm always looking for ideas and inspiration, and sometimes I found...well, curious things. Like this portraits of Horus Heresy characters (Mostly Primarchs, but not only) featured as Victorian age people. The artist is german and uses the nick Eatsbluecrayon. Quite funny and interesting. 3. ++ Deathwatch Campaign: Head Hunted ++ ++ KILL TEAM: HELLEBORE ++ ++ CONSTITUTED 789.999.M41 ++ + Character Holofiles and Intel Dataslates + "It is on their shoulders the future of the Canis Salient rests. The whole right arm of the Crusade, thrust like a spear into the guts of the alien T'au. The Hunter Cadres of the Tsua'Malor Viorla resist everywhere, almost as maddened as the Lord Commander for death and glory. Yet we seek victory, a crushing blow to the xenos hordes that infest the worlds of the Greyhell Front. With the Emperor's blessing - it shall be delivered." - Bastion Commander Saran Gholbert, 23rd Hethgard Fusiliers. This thread will hold the details for all Characters in the upcoming Kill Team Operation: Head Hunted. + Operatives + Brother Khordelia-C
  4. =][= DEATHWATCH: SOLO PLAY - KILL MARINE OPERATIONS =][= "Y ou asked for Regiments of the Imperial Guard, demanded support from a flotilla of Imperial Navy Warships, pleaded for the steel rain of drop pods filled with Astartes. You do not understand your problem. All that is required, is my swinging blade to the back of the Xenos commander's neck."- Deathwatch Kill Marine Narvik Redfist 'The Butcher of Traesir' This thread will hold the details for both Characters in the upcoming Solo Play campaigns. + Operatives + Kill Marine: Journeyman, Marfóir Lugh of the Bloodmoon Hunters (TechCaptain) - Operation Midnight Kill Marine: Ravenwing Veteran, Raziel of the Dark Angels (Steel Company) - Operation Deadbolt + Advanced Training + All Characters receive the following: Special Ability: Army Of One (Free, no xp award) Kill Marines are selected for their exceptional training, resolve or sheer wealth of Experience. Effect: Any Character with this Talent may take an Elite Advance at the Base Cost listed on the tables available to them Example: Brother Beliasius is a Tactical marine, but his Personal History supports him having served in the Devastator Companies. He may choose abilities from the Devastator Table for his current Rank, but since he is a Tactical Marine, this would count as an Elite Advance, and so would usually cost 750xp on top of the purchased ability. However, since he has the Army Of One Special Ability, it only costs the original asking price in XP. Special Ability: My Word is my Bond (Free, no xp award) The Kill Marine is a solitary individual who brings fire and death. Required to act on his own initiative, the pomp and ceremony of the Oathing, and the bonds that come with it hold no succour. His mission is the only oath he recognises. Effect: The Character may not benefit from taking any Oaths of Moment, but his singular determination confers a +10 bonus to any Willpower test and may combine with other bonuses to the same characteristic. Special Ability: Not Gonna Die Tonight (Free, no xp award) The Battle Brother has survived many fights by simply understanding how much punishment his body can take and how his own physiology works. Living a life on the edge of war, where he may fall alone and unremembered is not an option with the mission incomplete. A quick tourniquet or synthflesh and cataplasm patch to take the sting off is good enough. Effect: Any Character with this Ability may use the Medicae Advanced Skill at half his Intelligence Stat, but is not trained in the skill beyond use on himself. He must have at least one item of medical equipment in order to use the skill. ++ DRAMATIS PERSONAE (Operation Midnight) ++ Watch Captain Procion, Deathwatch (Iron Knights) Inquisitor-Sentinel Markus Ignacio Hadrax, Ordo Xenos Commander Raphael Tarkus, Master of the Accipiter Nihilus, Ordo Xenos Cantus-Scriptor Karliah S'Juun, Adeptus Sororitas +++ FILES PENDING +++ ++ DRAMATIS PERSONAE (Operation Deadbolt) ++ Watch Commander Mordigael, Deathwatch (Blood Angels) Inquisitor-Adept Tomos Jerrill, Ordo Xenos Master Sergeant of Stormtroopers Jakob Morrab, Ordo Xenos Captain Felicita Yarvin, Mistress of the Xenobane, Ordo Xenos Lance-Serjeant Kraevus, Deathwatch (Red Hunters) Swiftclaw Pack Leader Iorek Grimjaw, Deathwatch (Space Wolves) +++ FILES PENDING +++ + Please Stand By for Incoming Orders + MR.
  5. I am currently working on making homebrew rules for the missing masters of the Hexagrammaton. We have very little to go on apart from their names and their general descriptions (We know Titus is a Castaferrum dreadnought for example) so I am having to pull a lot of this out of my ass. Please leave feedback as I genuinely want to make these characters fair and balanced and not just a power fantasy. Rules are in the MEGA https://mega.nz/folder/9ZAGDS5T#2Q5lAxg0LbVn9TiO9KhQTw
  6. Okay, so I've got a question for the 30k players on the board: Basing Specifically, Independent Character basing. I know that in 30k, Independent Characters can join squads. I've also noticed that in 40k now, the trend is that characters tend to be on bigger bases than their standard counterparts (ie: Power Armour Marine characters are on 40mm bases). I'm curious if that's something that would be fine in 30k? Inquiring because I'm building my force to work in both, and I don't want to magnetize characters so they fit on two base sizes  Because I just got the Narik Dreygur model, and while he's fine on a 32mm base, I was contemplating putting him on a 40mm to make it more scenic?
