  1. What it is is I've hit a slight snag with the back story. In short there are too many threads, but that's not important. What is important is that having to pause and contemplate those threads has given me time to finish some painting and modeling projects I've been meaning to get round to. So, without any ado, the first installment of the Legions of Kraven Showcase. Here's Foronax the Daemonsmith and some of his servants and creations. Next up a few of Charn the Blind, riding atop his former First Acolyte Semik There will be more, as soon as the things I've ordered arrive
  2. Working on my Chaos Marine army is slow-going for a bunch of reasons, but progress does happen (and hopefully soon so will more actual games). I'm currently focused on assembling/converting a couple of extra HQ choices. Firstly, a new Chaos Lord based on an Aspiring Champion from the original incarnation of my army. Tentatively named Kayne Firebringer. There's a good chance the name will change at some point (or possibly just the spelling). Based on a Primaris Reiver to get the extra stature the original version was supposed to possess. I'm trimming down the right-hand shoulder pad to add a regular CSM shoulder pad over it, and I need to remove the left hand/forearm to replace it with the CSM power fist for "I'm coming for you" effect. I'm also waiting on some Necromunda Goliath parts to give him one of the masked heads instead of the head shown in this image. Next we have Angelica, Exalted Champion of Khorne or, as I like to think of her, the Khornate Murder Princess. She's waiting for me to work out what I'm doing for her shoulder pad and to fill the gap from the cloak piece I decided against using. I have a right arm for her, with a massive blade weapon, but I think I need to sort out the torso before I can start trimming the shoulder on the arm to get it to fit. And finally, for now, the third Helbrute for my army. Unfortunately I couldn't get my camera to focus on the Cold One Head properly. All it really needs at the moment is a bit of gap-filling, but I'm tempted to add spikes and blades to the spire for the extra Godzilla factor. The heavy flamers use the spare cannisters from the Helbrute kits and nozzles from the Sister of Silence kit.
  3. The story of the Emerald Ghosts began, as with many before, with the tale of a noble, loyal Chapter of Adeptus Astartes. Though currently designated as Excommunicate Traitoris by the High Lords of Terra and the Inquisition, the Emerald Ghosts began as a valuable addition to the forces of the God-Emperor of Mankind. A fleet-based chapter that often drew its recruits from worlds that had benefited from their actions. The Chapter embodied all that the Space Marines were meant to be. Much of the details of their history has been lost to the ages and ravages of time, including such details as the source of their gene-seed and the Founding that brought them into the Imperium. We do know, however, the events that would lead to their fall from grace and would lead them into the service of the Ruinous Powers. The Emerald Ghosts, as a fleet-based chapter, had chosen to answer a summons from an Imperial world called <Redacted by the Inquisition> that had fallen under attack by foul xenos of unknown origin. The entire fleet transitioned into the Warp en mass and began the journey to relieve <Redacted>. And then, they disappeared. Some two centuries later, the fleet... intact and in the same condition as the day that they had entered the Warp... transitioned back into Realspace. In fact, for the Emerald Ghosts, no time had passed at all. The world of <Redacted> had long since been reduced to a lifeless ball of rock by the xenos scum that the chapter had intended to protect them from. And that lead to certain elements of the Imperial Inquisition to question the integrity and loyalty of the Ghosts. The chapter protested loudly that they were not corrupted in any way, not in body nor soul, and they universally submitted to the barrage of tests and nearly-torturous trials of purity at the hands of the Inquisition. The Inquisition found no evidence of any corruption... but suspicions ran deep and the Ghosts began a long, grueling period in which their integrity and loyalty were constantly questioned even while they valiantly fought the enemies of Mankind. In the following two centuries, the chapter continued to have their reputation besmirched and even bore the humiliation of other Imperial forces outright refusing to fight alongside them. Yet still they persevered. Until the fateful battle of Newington VII where the Ghosts would turn on their brethren and hand the world to the Great Enemy. From what we know, the Planetary Governor of Newington VII had made an astropathic broadcast for aid as his rule was jeopardized by a shocking, and sudden, rebellion that had been fomented by forces of the Ruinous Powers. The Newington PDF was struggling to contain the rebels and the planet desperately needed help. And so the Ghosts... as a complete Chapter... moved to relieve the beleaguered world. Upon entering the system the Chapter Master of the Ghosts, <Name Redacted>, sent the entirety of the Chapter's Fourth and Eighth Companies to establish a beachhead and begin actively fighting the enemies of Mankind. They were met with the massed firepower of the Planetary PDF and, not expecting that they would be taking friendly fire, were cut to pieces. The command to open fire came from the Lord Governor himself, having been told many stories of the corruption and disloyalty of the Ghosts over the years... and having been fed lies and falsehoods by one of his Senior Advisors... believed that the Ghosts had come to join the rebels and finally show their true colors. This attack had taken the Astartes completely unaware and they opened a line of communication with the Governor. He accused them of coming to aid his enemies and vowed to hold on until "true help" arrived. Confused, shocked, and angry the Ghosts continued to send forces to the site of their embattled (and maimed) brothers. The PDF continued their attack and even more Ghosts were killed. When Chapter Master <Name Redacted> once again opened a line of communication with the Planetary Government he issued the following statement: "We have come to you in your hour of need and you have not only rebuffed our aid, but you have attacked us and drawn the blood of men that meant only to help you. You have called us Heretics. Called us Traitors. Called us The Enemy. Those of our Battle-Brothers who have fallen to your guns will be avenged. If you wish us to be your enemies then that is what we will give you. You will reap what you have sowed." All communications ended and the Emerald Ghosts then began deploying planetside as a Chapter, executing a textbook Planetary Assault that would have made Guilliman proud. The cheers of the ignorant populace at seeing the fiery trails of Astartes drop pods and Thunderhawk gunships coming and thinking that they were about to be rescued by the Emperor's Finest turned to cries of horror and all hope of being saved from the forces of Chaos turned to ash in their mouths as the Ghosts landed and immediately turned their guns on them. By the end of the day, as the combined assault of the enraged Space Marines and seemingly limitless supply of rebels and heretics began to close in on the Governor's Palace, the man realized that he had orchestrated his own doom and turned to ask his advisor what he should do only to find that the man had disappeared now that his role in the twisted plan of the Ruinous Powers was complete. The last act that the Governor performed was to send a message to the Imperium to inform them of the treachery of the Ghosts, though he left the part that he had played a secret that would not come to light for many, many years. The Ghosts, with their spirits broken and their trust and faith in the Imperium betrayed for the last time, fully accepted the consequences of their actions and would from then on act out a seemingly never-ending Crusade of Vengeance in the centuries that have since passed. Many of the Battle-Brothers who had survived the events on Newington VII have continued working together as a massive fleet of raiders but some of them have left the company of their brothers to strike out on their own. The heretics, though exhibiting many signs of the inevitable corruption that comes with serving the Ruinous Powers, mostly continue to wear armor in bright, brilliant green that had been their proudly-worn livery. They do this to spite the Imperium of Man and as a point of pride. The Emerald Ghosts tend to be encountered most frequently in the Segmentum Pacificus and are to be considered to be a great and terrible threat to this day. ******** So, yeah, brothers. This is the start of my DIY Chaos Space Marine Plog. I hope you'll enjoy following along as I dive into this... my first ever Chaos army! Thanks for looking and I'll see you soon!
  4. Hey guys, Years ago when got into warhammer my first army was a load of badly painted and greenstuffed models of my home brew chapter the rot lords. I moved on from them after my paint skill improved to word bearers and night lords but with the latest release i have decided to re-create that chapter and write a back story for them. I'll be adding pics of the models as I finish them. Feel free to skip the back story was longer than I thought it would be. Below you will find a picture of the remains of Decious who is now Defacatus. The Rotlords were once the Brother's Fealty Chapter hailing from a recruitment planet called Belian near Ultramar. They were known as successors from the Ultramarine chapter and were known as perfect example of what it was to serve the Emperor as Adeptus Astartes. When the Warp Rift that tore the galaxy in half came to the planet, Belian became completely cut off from the outside world. A rogue Death Guard Sorcerer by the name of Sephlis began blighting the population and summoning legions of the pestilent hordes of plague bearers to reap a bountiful tally for Nurgle. Chapter Master Decious issued that the marines were to dig in and fortify their fortress known as Unity Fort. They saved as much of the population as they could but sadly most of the population were left to fend for themselves in the blighted wasteland that was now Belian. Months passed and the legions of Nurgle threw themselves against the fortress and each time the Brothers Fealty pushed back. In the wasteland of Belian the plagues of Nurgle ran rampant and those that did not fall to the plagues turned to Nurgle for aid, and he was all too happy to accept them. The blighting of the planet became so severe that a far more ancient and devious mind set it's eyes on it. Axhaxaghul an ancient Great Unclean one, famous for demanding his followers call him "Big Fats" and being paternal to the extreme. It wasn't long before the walls of Unity fort began to crumble with Decay. Inside the fort the population that had made it in were beginning to starve and sicken. They pleaded with the Brother's fealty chapter to end their suffering and some even resorted to cannibalism. The Brother's Fealty began to despair and asked Decious to sally forth and reclaim the planet and purge the heresy but Decious knew that to open up the gates of the fort would lead to the planet falling. In desperation he ordered all the population within the walls to be purged as their clamoring and disparaging were taking it's tole upon his marines. This order was not entirely followed as some of the marines simply drove the population into the basement of the fort and locked it sealing them behind the massive basement doors in the hope that a solution could be found before they needed to be purged, it was this desperate act that would be the final undoing of the chapter. One infected person is all it took, In the basement the starvation continued and a rampant disease festered, the horror that they had been left to die in a pitch black cold basement drove some insane and chaos ensued. It was then that something crawled from the filth pits the population were using as a lavatory. The stench of it was unbearable and some so weak from hunger died on the spot. It called itself the Keeper of Anguish and offered a solution to the disparaging, Slowly over the course of a few days they converted, festered, loved and despaired, They rotted, bloated, hugged and laughed. They anguished, cried, transformed and by the ended were something that was not human at all. A man by the name of Kyudus suffered the most. Voted by the people to be the their voice to the Keeper of Anguish he was transformed in a monstrous chaos spawn that was able to rip down the basement doors and lead the revenge of those that had been locked below. The marines were shocked at what came from the basement, a Morbid selection of flesh monsters and dancing piles of filth. So great was the horror of the marines that had locked these poor souls in the basement that they had personally delivered themselves to Decious as punishment. Decious furious with rage ordered them to exterminate the monsters to the last. The Marines tried but were overwhelmed in a tide of flesh and despair. Decious in his tactical dreadnought armour ordered all available marines to the lower levels to put an end to this once and for all, it is there that he encountered the hulking monster Kyudus. Kyudus vomited on Decious a tidal wave of filth, decreasing in size as he poured his mass into the mix of bile and putrid filth, The lower levels where the Astartes were mounting their desperate counter attack against the jovial flesh monsters of the fortress bowels began to fill with the vomit, It rusted their Armour with the fumes clogging their bolters and chain blades but had no effect on the diseased denizens of the deep. It came down to the marines pushing on with rusted armour using nothing but their tactical knives to try reach the source but one by one they were either dragged into the vomit or torn apart by the diseased monsters of Nurgle. Eventually after hours of trudging through sludge and filth First captain Vinious and his squad reached the source to find the Keeper of Anguish and bowing to him was the bloated monstrosity that had become Decious. He had swollen to double his normal size almost busting from his Terminator Armour. The marines pleaded with Decious to stand up and slay the Daemon but Decious remained bowed. It was then the Keeper of Anguish handed Decious his blade and told him to cut out the Gene Seed from his brothers. The fight was over in minutes and the Keeper of Anguish knighted Decious as Defecatus, Champion of Rot. Defecatus with his army of Rotting flesh monsters set about taking the fort in the name of nurgle, His brothers that did not join him willingly were dipped into the sludge until they willingly vowed their souls to Defacatus and Nurgle. Once he had made the fort his he opened the gates to be greeted by Sephlis, Sephlis bowed to Defecatus offering his services to him swearing a legion of pox and plagues to his cause. Defacatus walked the wasteland while what the population had become worshiped at his feet swearing to serve him. They guided him up the stairs of what had been the governors palace to the feet of Axhaxaghul. Axhaxaghul embraced Defecatus and told him to take the planet and build an army that He would need it soon to spread the bounty of Papa. Defecatus rose and swore before Axhaxaghul that in his name he would blight a thousand worlds, he turned to what remained of his chapter and shouted what would become their war cry, "Metal shall rust, Flesh shall rot and the souls of man shall despair in the ever loving embrace of papa nurgle".He then renamed his chapter the Rotlords and began rebuilding Belian into a fully functioning plague planet. http://i.imgur.com/MSZBe2d.jpg

I got fed up with not being able to find units in the 10th edition Heretic Astartes Index, so decided to make my own index. I also disliked having to go through all the character units data cards to figure out what could be attached to a given unit, so I created a list by unit of what could attach to them (if it isn't on the list, there are no characters that can attach to it in the Index). Thought it might be useful to other players, so I've uploaded it here. It is a word document, but saved as Rich Text so hopefully it will be accessible to most.
