CSM 10th edition Havocs This is a topic about Havocs in the 10th edition. Do you use them? How are you using them? Do you think they perform well? How do you equip them? Do you attach them to any specific unit? Is there a detachment that they are extra crucial? Other Unit of the Week for Chaos Space Marines can be found in the link below. So I'm back into build & paint mode for my Alpha Legionnaires and as I'm approaching the finish line for my Predator (WIP thread in the AL sub for those interested!) I'm looking ahead to what's next. I just so happen to have a box of Havocs still in the shrink wrap, and a few spare chaincannons from previous Havoc boxes to bulk out a full squad. My initial assessment was that chaincannons would do better on Troop CSM squads providing a base of fire with bolters, but the DTTFE has me thinking that chainswords might be the better bet for Troop squads -- ergo, chaincannons should go on Havocs. It's a LOT of shots, especially with Cacophony as an option, but I wanted to get some practical experience from the rest of the community on whether or not they're actually worth taking at the moment. Yes, I'm aware of the theory about "contents of the box = options in the book" that coalesced after the latest DG codex release, but I'm not worried about future proofing. If it comes to that, I can just pop the guns off because I don't use plastic glue.

+++Unit of the week+++ Havocs This thread is only for tactics for Havocs, not for pictures, there are other places for that. How to best use Havocs? Wargear? Legion? Marks? Which stratagems are worth throwing out? Any solid unit combos?

So I finally got my first box of the new Havocs recently and I wanted to poll the community about mixed loadouts. In the past with both Havocs and Devastators, I have always fielded "pure" squads -- all the gunners have the same weapon -- but that was when I could take some extra bodies to soak up bullets. I know all of the pros and cons -- getting focused down, stratagem/spell efficiency, splitting fire, etc -- but I figured I'd open the floor. Convince me: pure squads, or mixed squads?

So, I got Shadowspear for Christmas today. Yay! With the CSM, I swapped half of them over to being 'Zerkers with some quick converting (headswap, used a couple spare plasma pistols I had lying around) and the other half is being run as an MSU of Chaos Space Marines with one autocannon guy and a champion with counts-as combi-plasma, provisionally, until I can get a box of the multi-part. I put a bigger base on the autocannon guy because he's effectively a Havoc as far as his model's concerned. Is this okay? Would you play me and my 40mm CSM heavy?

So, here's the deal. My FLGS is having a sale on Black Friday, I may be able to get a box of Havocs for cheap. What I'm wondering is - what's in the kit? The GeeDubs site says they have 2 of each heavy weapon, and 1 Reaper Chaincannon, plus some options for the Champion. The sprue pics on the site say it has ONE of each heavy weapon, one Chaincannon and Champion options. Did anyone buy this? Can anyone confirm or deny this? Am I missing something?
