    XIVth Legion build

    By W.A.Rorie

So am I back from Indiana. I have to head back to move In-Laws into a Retirement Center, in a few weeks. And of course everything goes sideways at work moment I get back. So hobby time has been non existence. Silver Lining is LGS not get Saturnine until Monday, so I can get everything I need to do first i.e. my XIXth Legion and Exorcists  Call to Arms Vows, that I have not started. And won't have time this weekend.   I did start on building one of My XIVth Legion Commanders, not sure w

    Jagieŀŀo inspects their prizes

    By GSCUprising

The Resistance have finally captured the war machines they believe they require to make their stand.   Brutus, the Malcador, reliable, dependable the spine of their battleline. She will not fail them. She will hold the line, her battlecannon roaring, her sponsons blazing as she paves the way for the Resistance's advance. Wrapping Wreckas

    By zulu.tango

Hit the throttle on the Wreckas last week. I've been painting pretty slowly this year all things considered, decided to change that with this project. Finished up free-hand on a few items, got the squigs painted up, did the bases and oil washes last week resulting in a final project I'm pretty happy with!    I dug out some of the leftover terrain bits I had from the sector imperialis/Chalnath terrain. I put a fine terrain paste around those bits and then put in some sand to act as larg

    Square Pants Bob

    By Bouargh

Hi Folks,   Today’s blog entry is a little bit specific as it deals with something different from my usual inputs: instead of reporting hobbying progress, I will talk about a trail I did for a new technique (à la TITH – i.e. something that is not new in general but new for me).     The technique is often reported on purpose of adding details and create battle damages or war-torn marks on miniatures. But beyond painting damages, the sponge might be used on purpose of

Space Hulk

Keeping focus in 2026. A history of excess from the Lord Commander 80s to 2020.

Part of the blog was me "focusing" on doing one thing and finishing it.  Space Hulk.  And I figured I would explain my previous armies/projects. This is my "brain dump" on justification of the blog, and kind of a summary of 30+ years of my time in the hobby.  Just a virtual reminisce for me.  A way for me to capture my thoughts and review them so I can plan the next steps.   More for me to clean my brain out!  And I do think in bullet points, not prose.     I tend to get an idea f
R-Space Hulk-Genestealers

My mommy always said there were no monsters - no real ones - but there are.

So next up, I have to decide on the Genestealer color scheme. I already have 3 other color schemes:     Hive Fleet Gorgon? Last year’s Cthulhu stealers. 11 Stealers with the Ygmirl heads.  I love the Cthulhu heads!  They go with the Delaque models I have been working on.  You know how the Delaque worship the Silent Ones!  Every time I see this, I really lean towards it.  Just not sure I have enough of the heads!     Another choice is the stealers from

All your bases belong to us.

Bases are on.  Put magnets on the bases.  I had bought some 40mm magnets, but they actually took up the whole bottom of the base.  So luckily I had also bought some 32mm magnets too, so I decided to use them.  For the GW bases with the magnet holes, I attached them to the bottom.  For the other ones, I put a blob of green stuff on top of the magnet so it would attach to the base and the ground. Used their toothpick handles and drilled a hole through the base (and the magnet in some cases. A

Basing the terminators

So I am not that talented for making terrain, and my 3d Printer still isn't working so I wanted to make some bases.   Years ago I made the bases (for the 25mm version of the game), so I figured I would do it again.   You can see the bases here under the Genestealers I was doing for Kill Team.  I would cut out the base to make a void under the grating. And use sprues as beams.     Basically, a plastic card with a circular cutter, marked up the decks some ra

Terminator apothecary

W.A.Rorie gave me a lot of great ideas for the Apothecary and Tech Marine, so huge shout out to them! So the only Apothecary in Terminator armor I could find was an old Dark Angels one!   Looks pretty good, has an Apothicary symbol on their shoulder so I was sold.  I also order some Dark Angels apothecary on bike bits to add more to the model!  I said I wouldn't over do it, so was keeping the model clean.     Now the Dark Angels Apothicary is the old scale

The Imperial Fists - Troops Assembly

So the Imperial Fists: I purchased what I thought I needed (and a bit more) \     So I started assembling the army in a more traditional (to me) way. Priming on the sprue, the assembly was difficult. Having to strip the paint where the model was joined. So I pivotted, as I mentioned, I bought the airbrush and figured I would follow the YouTube videos.  It was a lot easier.  For the Apothecary I used blue tack to block areas.   Nor for the Imperial Fists yo

The Dengamar Strife Character Profile: Lord Inquisitor Lanto Dannyrer

Assault Druhtii

The Greymanes do not have Blood Claws, as they cannot afford to waste even a middling prospective Astartes. Instead, more experienced brothers, whose proficiencies lie in close quarters combat, take up the roles that Blood Claws would in other Chapters of the Russ lineage. These duguthi are odd sorts — impetuous, but measured.
Space Hulk

A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct.

I have started this project multiple times in the past.  Collecting Genestealers, putting together terminators and more.  But usually I would complicate the idea so much that it would get to be to much for me, and time or attention span would not be up to the task. This time I decided on a couple of quick rules.     Keep the list as simple as possible I would get lost in magnatizing the marines, or hand carving/building the Space Hulk terrain, and it would just take too lo

The Dengamar Strife Part 3: The Response

Hey guys!   I have more additions to the Dengamar Strife story/setting I'm building. Continuing on after the Dumir’s coup. We learn the Imperium's response:  I will be posting some character profiles over the coming days to fill in some of the back story of these characters. So expect to be seeing those, until then!

Blood Greys Part 2: Followers of the Blood

Hello Traitors and Villains    So If you have been following the lore of the Bloody Grey (if not click here ), you'll know that the Blood Grey were once known as The Grey Regulars. Their corruption happen at the hands of The Blood Speaker Cult (More lore click here ) the Cliffsnotes version is that The Bloodspeakers are a secret cult that has operated along time on the planet Dengamar Prime. Trying to influence Dengamar’s ruling houses, often through subtle means like dream implantatio

Skull Brethren Part 8: It's not hard, its just brain surgery

Hello guys! just a small update on my World Eaters... I bought it, it arrived monday but I haven't gotten my hands on proper until today. I'm not sure if this is my largest kit I have bought. I think my Tyrannofex is bigger, but this has been one of the harder builds I have done at least in recent memory. The lower torso, the place where are the legs attach was difficult for me. If anyone asks, I'm going to say the World Eaters build this one, and they are not known for the engineerin

Canticle of Absolution   I'm tired....It has a been a long rough week in the real world. I barely had to time hobby, between tons of work issues and little bit of home life drama. I am drained. I have been pushing myself hard this week at work. I am behind in my 12 MoH vows and have 6 days to complete the models the 4 Scouts, Terminator ancient and start my Adepta Sororitas Celestian Insidiants Kill Team model.  I feel the tension in my shoulders. "It’s not a bike, it’s a chopper baby”

Hi folks,   After compiling a series of mugshots (or almost) of some of the terrain I own vs. the new teased terrain area templates for 11th, this whole stuff made me dive again into some of the previous iterations of terrain rules in 40k.   I am playing since 1st Ed. Yet I do not own every rule or campaign book and, in the past decade, my gaming rate decreased significantly. What I can share is basically a partial and naturally biased view of my past experiences (or what I

New edition, new army...maybe?

So with the dawn of 11th edition Warhammer 40,000 coming this June. I have been pondering about maybe starting a new project. My Tyranids are basically done, I probably won't be adding more unless there's some drastic changes. My Space Marines and World Eaters are in playable states, they might get some additional stuff but I'm in no rush to complete them fully. My traitor guard are kinda in a holding pattern state. I ordered some non GW traitor guard infantry from game found (similar to Kicksta
Hobby & process

I’ve been in a hobby slump, and that’s ok.

Greetings Fraters, this is a different sort of update from me - it’s an update of, well, very little or no progress. Basically, I’ve struggled with my motivation to paint over the last month-to-six weeks.    There are a few reasons for this; the biggest is that we had a bereavement in the family a couple of months ago. We lost a very close family member following a long and determined fight against cancer; so it was a loss that was expected, but nonetheless difficult. Honestly, if anyone

An inventory for some of existing Terrain kits - Part III

Hi Folks,   And what about homemade terrain? I have started talking about it there:   In general anything special and personnal (in terms of scenery) will require being able to adapt oneself, find new solutions by proposing taylor made templates… an example bellow is my elevated road; it requires 3 large rectangle templates. Very specific? May be, unless we will require adapting ourselves to this new rule setting. But does it needs to be depicted as a terrain? Maybe rules wi

An inventory for some of existing Terrain kits - Part II

Hi Folks,   This is the second entry related to the topic. First can be found here:     1.      Vertigus, Bheta-Decima and Charadon – Mechanicus sector like stuff Generally speaking all items from these series will fit the templates. There are however some comments. First about gantries: if they fit the largest line, the amount of these is rather imited atm and as such the over representation of gantries will tend to disappear of be reduced. Unless it is comb

An inventory for some of existing Terrain kits - Part I

Hi Folks,   While I have had an insight on the potential impact of the teased terrain area templates shared by GW on WarCom (#New40k – Take cover with updated terrain rules) and in line with the rule changes for 11th, I kept on playing with my mobile phone and cardboard templates, just to see how my more “corporate” pieces of terrain fit in this whole perspective. Let’s have a look.   1.      Battle for Maccrage One of my favorite set. The crashed Aquilla lander was one

Trajectory control – Scenery project and new rules

Hi Folks,   What happens when your compass indicates that you are slowly drifting from your set course? You adjust your rudder… When it deals with scenery making, drifting is synonym of new rules for terrain features due to new edition.   But is it really a set of new rules? Shall we look at these with attention (on the basis of the extracts of info we got so far) it is not really that of a new thing: terrain area existed prior. It is more that the rules looks like they are

If you want to know about the lore of these group that I have cooked up click on the link below.  Bloody Grey's Lore     Back in the day, My brother and I would play Combat Patrol, but this wasn't the modern Combat Patrol that we have today. Starting to harbour some doubts

So, the other day I finally got out of a bit of a hobby slump (to be fair to myself, I'd been steadily, but very slowly, painting some Nurgle guys for AoS but mostly/only because I meet up with some friends once every week/fortnight and paint) and felt the urge to do something creative. So I found some styrofoam I had lying around as well as a ship I bought in the local thrift shop a couple of years ago, decided to build a harbour and got to work. I initially just placed the styrofoam sections i

Skull Brethren Part 7: State of the Horde

Hey guys,   So this is the currently state of the Skull Brethren or at least the finished painted models. It's about 40 infantry, 6 characters, about 5 armoured assets and a pair of spawn. Probably south of 2000pts but over 1500pts for sure. Now what isn't here:   20 built but not painted Khorne Berzerkers. I haven't built up the painting willpower to tackle them yet. Although they will become a priority soon as 11 edition looms  2 more Chaos Spawn. I do run a list th
