    Wrapping Wreckas

    By zulu.tango

Hit the throttle on the Wreckas last week. I've been painting pretty slowly this year all things considered, decided to change that with this project. Finished up free-hand on a few items, got the squigs painted up, did the bases and oil washes last week resulting in a final project I'm pretty happy with!    I dug out some of the leftover terrain bits I had from the sector imperialis/Chalnath terrain. I put a fine terrain paste around those bits and then put in some sand to act as larg

    Square Pants Bob

    By Bouargh

Hi Folks,   Today’s blog entry is a little bit specific as it deals with something different from my usual inputs: instead of reporting hobbying progress, I will talk about a trail I did for a new technique (à la TITH – i.e. something that is not new in general but new for me).     The technique is often reported on purpose of adding details and create battle damages or war-torn marks on miniatures. But beyond painting damages, the sponge might be used on purpose of

    XIVth Legion build

    By W.A.Rorie

So am I back from Indiana. I have to head back to move In-Laws into a Retirement Center, in a few weeks. And of course everything goes sideways at work moment I get back. So hobby time has been non existence. Silver Lining is LGS not get Saturnine until Monday, so I can get everything I need to do first i.e. my XIXth Legion and Exorcists  Call to Arms Vows, that I have not started. And won't have time this weekend.   I did start on building one of My XIVth Legion Commanders, not sure w

She will not fail them. She will hold the line, her battlecannon roaring, her sponsons blazing as she paves the way for the Resistance's advance. 12 Month of Hobby Update- Retributors Part 2

Well we are down to the final 5 days remaining for this month's challenge. And I wonder if I am going to make it. So with that in mind I took time to work on my Retributors this weekend.   I had issues with my vallejo paints clogging my airbrush so I switched to Army Painter Warpaints Air Triad of Regiment Grey (followed by string tone wash), Uniform Grey, and Cadre Grey.     Then once again back to Warpaints Air, this time Encarmine Red for the Multi-Meltas

Thunderhawk round 2 part 3

Well thats thunderhawk 2 me 0. Managed to get a nice red base coat on through the airbrush. Masked up the wings to do the black details and there was no paint coming out the airbrush. So I disassembled the air brush and the nozzle was so jammed up only about 1/3 of the needle was showing through the nozzle! So after a bit of cleaning I returned to the thawk, sprayed over what i had masked out, removed the tape and.... paint seepage! I left some lovely tape lines aswell. I tried to sand thes

Skull Brethren Part 1: The Ship of Theseus

Hello followers of the Dark Gods! I have been a World Eaters Player since, I want to say 1998., so almost 30 years. Over the years I have bought, sold and traded for models. My warband has gone through many name changes, The Blood Vultures (When my warband used an ungodly amount of raptors) The Crimson Butchers (When my warband was a Chaos Soup army, with daemons and Traitor Guard units) and now we have settle on The Skull Brethren for 9th, 10th and probably 11th edition. The army has ballooned

The 'Informant'

This is a passage from earlier on in the first story, Comes the Sandstorm. It shows Kaśnyk's day-to-day work and why, when the Resistance begins showing up, he switches on to their activities. It also shows a brief slipping of the mask. He is a true believer in the Imperium. Earlier on, he corrects a worker for slipping into the local tongue, "Gothic only. I will not listen to anything else."   This scene is a little mundane, but I feel it sharpens the facelessness of the authorities a

Thinning paint to a milk-like consistency.... my airbrush woes

The other day I primed my Adepta Sororitas Retributors with Army Painter Matt Black primer and a zenithal of Army Painter Matt White Primer.      Next day I went to paint them with Vallejo Model Colour Basalt grey. Got the bodies done and then airbrush stopped working.... Grab next airbrush nope spraying nothing, grab next one and it is doing nothing, and grab final one and it will not do anything either.  Great four airbrushes are down.   Dump paint into bucket. an

Painting Bunker Bingo 2026 - Planning attempt

Hi folks,   After a couple of months since the launch of this challenge in the dedicated Club area, I feel like it is now the time to put some planification inside.       I have started just like this, without much planning than “find-some-unit-to-fill-the-card”. It might be just fine but it is a little bit going by the blind way. So I’ve made an inventory of my backlog which is likely to be included. This year my main plan is to deplete my back log from all the ti

A start....sort of

Hello all. I decided to start another blog, this time to chart out my progress for stuff that isn't currently my Night Lords or Votann. Since I have quite a few other armies/projects, I figure that rather than create new blogs for all of them I'll consolidate them into one. I will still have my various threads for the complete minis (Word Bearers, Necrons, Primaris), but since those threads are all typically about complete models/fluff, this will be where my weird ideas come to bloom.

12 Month of Hobby Update- Retributors

"No plan of operations extends with any certainty beyond the first encounter with the main enemy forces". Helmuth von Moltke the Elder (1800–1891)     Well with all the rumors of the Iron Warriors coming I am really glad I switched from the Heavy Bolters to the Multi-Meltas for my Retributors.  Some other changes had to be made:   Crucible of Champions Build a Canoness Jump Canoness is now Warlord Jump Canoness is more of Personal Character and Order of Part

12 Months of Hobby - February update #1

A.k.a - Progressing when you only get 60-90 minutes at a time to paint and are bad at estimating how quickly you can go in a session.    Halfway through the month and I'm at least on track to finish my February vow for the 12 Months of Hobby by the end of the month. That's a marked improvement over January! I have gotten distracted by planning out a different project but that has been something I've been able to do when I couldn't paint...so no foul for this month.   I've got

Weekly Update #4

So no battle report this week. The combat patrol league is every other week at the local store.    So I started on the chaos marines. Doing a modified Black Legion scheme. I’m hoping to get these done somewhat fast. I haven’t gotten their scheme full worked out in my head. Even with it mostly being by the book i have to paint a few to get it down and be able to assembly line paint it.     Here are the Death Riders, pictures not that great, sorry, but they are battle

"Without Him, a billion billion souls are nought but fodder for the ever-thirsting evils of the Warp." —Ecclesiarch Theodacus V, Indroit to the Verses of Dusk   Well the Crucible of Champions leaks has spun me in to a little frenzy of building.  Here are the models built and what I planned so far.   Militant Commander: Specialism: Jump Pack Ability: Fury of the Righteous Weapons: Blessed Blade and Plasma Pistol   Militant Commander:

Loxodon Guard Part 7: Looking Ahead

So this is where the collection stands currently, It about 60 infantry and characters and 4 Dreadnoughts.  I think I got the Space Marine bug. They are super easy to build and paint. there a lot of character that you have give them also.    What's next for them? I do want another Apothecary, I might get a Redemptor Dreadnought and jazz him up for a "Titan Father". If GW makes a Venerable Redemptor Dreadnought I will hop on that one. I also have an idea for a Chapter Master, using a Pra

Thunderhawk round 2 part 2

Managed to get a decent prime coat on the thawk today aswell as priming a necron lord and chaos lord. It was interesting to see the difference between the black and grey primer going through the air brush, the thawk had  2 coats of grey whilst the necron and chaos lords only needed the one black undercoat in my opinion.  Both primers are vallejo thinned 2 primer :1 thinner with a couple of drops of flow improver. The black went down beautifully and as I said the grey needed a bit of going over.

Adventures in the immaterium

This is not THE beginning of my time with daemons...but it is A beginning.   The local group has recently started planning a loose narrative campaign around the Badab war and a revisit of 5th in general, which got me looking at what I had in the backlog.  While I have no interest in painting a non-heresy marine or xenos army at this time, I've had an on again / off again relationship with chaos in 40k (and Fantasy Battles) over the years.  The result of that is a lot of unpainted daemo

Thunderhawk round 2 part 1

I had a stab at painting this thunderhawk previously with an air brush (my first time using one) and things did not go well!! So after a few days of soaking in floor cleaner and scrubbing with a tooth brush I think it's time for another go. Plan is to re prime it with vallejo grey primer as this stuff seems to go on smooth and very thin, much nicer than the halfords auto primer rattle cans that I have used for most of my guys to date! I love the way forgeworld have painted their full size one an

Tactical Marine

I've had a box of blood angels tactical marines that I have been painting up for a while now. This is the 10th and last one all done (finally!!) I've tried to go for an old but well maintained look, painting the chest decoration and other accessories in a weathered brass sort of style. I'm not a big fan of gems on armour so I painted these as brass aswell as I like the idea of decoration but not done in expensive or valuable materials as whats the point if its getting shot at!? I would like to a

Loxodon Guard Part 6: Titan Brothers

So one of the guiding themes of the Loxodon Guard was that they respected Resilience and Experience. Which made me gravitate towards the Dreadnoughts. As being interred into a Dreadnought is kind of the ultimate expression of "Only in Death Does Duty End" motto. So I choose to feature Redemptor Dreadnoughts heavily in the army. The Loxodon Guard view the "Titan Brothers" in high esteem. Each echelon (aka company) is given 5 Primaris Dreadnoughts. The oldest dreadnought is referred to as the "Tit

Load plan – how I schedule my painting projects Part 2

Hi folks,   Last entry was about managing the almost daily/weekly organization of my painting backlog. It led me to comment about the dynamic underneath my approach of model stacking into the painting queues. Conclusion was that as far as I am concerned, I work better if I run multiple projects in parallel and if I feed the pipe in a revolving way. It is all about number, type and variety of color schemes. And it has impacts on my mood and assiduity.   But interestingly enoug

Changes....

So the Crusade has decided to use the new custom character creation in the Maelstrom supplement. It managed to leak and I'm was able to look up what options are available for Votann. I had previously decided to make a character using the AoS Kharadon Overlords Codewright model, to make an explorer Ironkin who has come back and found his Kindred destroyed. Looking at my list and the character creation, that model would basically be a regular Kahl with some different weapons replacing Uthar in the

Load plan – how I schedule my painting projects

Hi folks,   I have recently spent some time dealing with a very serious issue: my painting yield has been reduced of about 50%. And I am not taking as a reference my productivity during lock-down. Rather the average production of mine for the past two years where, on average, I have managed sorting out one unit every 5 days. All game systems included. So, what happened?   Extra stuff to do beyond hobby? – not really. Or at least not in an amount that prevents me from get
