    Wrapping Wreckas

    By zulu.tango

Hit the throttle on the Wreckas last week. I've been painting pretty slowly this year all things considered, decided to change that with this project. Finished up free-hand on a few items, got the squigs painted up, did the bases and oil washes last week resulting in a final project I'm pretty happy with!    I dug out some of the leftover terrain bits I had from the sector imperialis/Chalnath terrain. I put a fine terrain paste around those bits and then put in some sand to act as larg

    XIVth Legion build

    By W.A.Rorie

So am I back from Indiana. I have to head back to move In-Laws into a Retirement Center, in a few weeks. And of course everything goes sideways at work moment I get back. So hobby time has been non existence. Silver Lining is LGS not get Saturnine until Monday, so I can get everything I need to do first i.e. my XIXth Legion and Exorcists  Call to Arms Vows, that I have not started. And won't have time this weekend.   I did start on building one of My XIVth Legion Commanders, not sure w

    Square Pants Bob

    By Bouargh

Hi Folks,   Today’s blog entry is a little bit specific as it deals with something different from my usual inputs: instead of reporting hobbying progress, I will talk about a trail I did for a new technique (à la TITH – i.e. something that is not new in general but new for me).     The technique is often reported on purpose of adding details and create battle damages or war-torn marks on miniatures. But beyond painting damages, the sponge might be used on purpose of

    Jagieŀŀo inspects their prizes

    By GSCUprising

The Resistance have finally captured the war machines they believe they require to make their stand.   Brutus, the Malcador, reliable, dependable the spine of their battleline. She will not fail them. She will hold the line, her battlecannon roaring, her sponsons blazing as she paves the way for the Resistance's advance. The Iron Duke, his twin Earthshaker cannons blasting holes in the enemy's fortifications. He guards those retreating and the wounded behind his massive blast shield

Bad Moonz Rising

Been a while since I've made a post, after the Knives in the Shadow competition, summer has been crazy busy between family and travel and whatnot. I also took a bit of a departure from the grimdark of the far future to dabble in models from a long time ago in a galaxy far away. Not entirely sure on the site policies regarding sharing pictures of other projects/games, so rather than risking an exterminatus on this post I'll limit my content to my current project.    Call to arms is here

Squad Torgrundyr

Hello again,   So, first up, a second squad of Grey Hunters (I know most think they are overpriced for what they bring, but this isn't really a gaming army, just a chance to paint what I think will look cool - and Marine infantry is cool)     As with the first squad, I've tried to create a mix of bits to evoke both their IH heritage (bionics and techy stuff) and their homeworld Halstarrig (feral bits, charms, teeth, etc). I've also used bits and a few conversions to

A New Project

Hello all,   So, I've decided to start a new blog for a new project. (My previous army of Celebrants Chapter Space Marines isn't quite finished, as I still have a few squads to complete. They are all WIP, but to be honest I needed a break from painting yellow/orange/red!)   So, for the Knives in the Shadows Kill Team Challenge this year I decided to go back to one of my DIY Chapters, the Marines Adamant. I tried a new technique of oil pin washing, and I was happy with the res

Call to Arms 2025: Week 2

Week 2 as come and gone and with it, not a lot of painting.     However, I do have twenty gaunts cleaned up with Contrast Leviathan purple and Contrast Ork Flesh.   A trip to the shops netted me a new Moot Green and I could finally begin drybrushing.     I was only able to get ten done as sadly my string of bad luck decided to continue as I spilled dirty paintbrush water over the remaining ten, meaning I was going to have to let them dry before

Overcoming fear

As said earlier, I have set aside Prawa V for a little bit. I'll return when I am ready to edit it properly. In the meantime, I've picked up the pen (or, more accurately, keyboard) and started on a sequel. I am enjoying writing my little vignettes. In this one, 329 is buying time for Freja to do what she must. She's the only one with the access and knowledge. Freja is terrified. She's a mid-level clerk. She is not built for this. But, our Narrator, the sergeant,  has other ideas. She eventually

Final Thoughts

Well, the final tally for the crusade came out. Chaos wound up tied for second with the Imperium, with one sector controlled each and 7 Crusade Points each. The Xenos took first with two sectors and 9 points total. A pretty good showing from Chaos, with us being down a player. Don't know if we could have done anything better, to be honest- the Imperium put everything they had into taking the sector we had controlled in phase 2, while I chose to split the Chaos points towards taking the Imperium'

CtA25 - Vow 1 - Week 2 progress report

Hi Folks,   This second week ends up with 2 completed units: the Kabalites (Hand of the Archon) and the kitbashed Archon.     Some close ups of the Kabalites:     The scheme is going to be reproduced once again on the crew members for the Venoms.   The Archon (also aligne din the Master of the Forge subchallenge) is based on a kit bash from a GSC Magus:     The Venom motojets will be my next unit to be completed in t

Phase 3 - Game 4

Xaphan spit out wrath and bile at the enemy. Thin-bloods again, the shadowy Ubral Reavers of the new Primaris breed. They had fought once, these Emperor-lovers who moved like mist and struck at strange angles. Very little went right in this battle. Weapons jammed, blades lost their power-fields or shuddered to a halt, orders were stolen by vox-thieves. Fallen champions were caught out in the open and hounded to death. The Forgotten didn't go alone, they fought with all their might. Havocs

Call to Arms 2025: Week 1

Okay, a day late, but I'm here now and that's what counts!   So, my intention was to go box by box, which meant that the Hormagaunts and Barbagaunts were up first.   This started with a healthy drybrushing of white scars white, like this happy chap      Then, it was time to make things green. I settled for doing 5 Hormagaunts at a time, till they were all the same: (Okay, so all 20 weren't pictured, but they were done!)   With the bas

A debt to pay

I felt I needed some sort of connection between the Prawa V I'd written and the sequel, some 50 years later. It was difficult to choose who to pick, but I think I made the right decision. Our narrator and Łaska will serve as an introduction to Freja (see previous blog entry) and a gateway to the new story, before fading off into the sunset. They've had their story. It's time for them to step aside, but not before firing up the new one.   =====   The sun was low when we return

The Beast awakens

Hi all,   I realise I have not written here for a bit nor have I started on my pledges for the Call To Arms (for shame!). Been a bit occupied travelling and with new job, etc. I've set aside Prawa V and my beloved Resistance for a little. I've finished the story and am going to go back in a month or so with a big, fat, red pen and edit, whilst mostly muttering "what the was I thinking?"   In the meantime, I've started on a sequel set some 50 years later. Here's a small sa

U.F.O.

Hi Folks,   As my models enlisted in the CtA25 are slowly drying, I used the time left between to thin layers to drill and pin some various old white metal bits all together. The result is a flying oddity, closely related to a fantasy dwarf lord but fiotted with an enlarged ork chainchoppa and Stormboyz rokkits (as jetpack). A good proxy for a Smash Captain; a proxy Deamonprince or and other flying Harrken from CSM. In a nutshell, a chaos turned Votann Lord!!!

The Host - Body of the Forgotten

The Forgotten are veterans of thousands of years of war. Initmately familiar with all forms of battle, from daring void-raids to full-throated open warfare, to the long, slow stalk of assassination. Each Astartes was forged in the fires of the Heresy against the Warmaster and tempered in the Long War against the Imperium. Their foes have been found wanting and the Forgotten will show them the errors of laxity.    Chosen squad Urial   Chosen squad Neferus Blade to bone Swords

(Space) Elves at work

Hi Folks,   Some 5 days after the kick-off of CtA25, I have managed some serious progress on my first units enlisted in my Xenos' pledge.   Kabalites bodies are now completed and the kit bashed Archon may probably require only a few corrective touches of 0000 brushed plus basing.   You can see bellow that I did not changed my scheme and sticked to the Arkhelian blue. Sorry, it is supposed to be a green.     Next step will be heads and weapons.

The Enemy does not sleep, nor shall we. - Chapter II part 4

"I am not corrupt," shouted Deputy Governor Reeta Nirom as she stood up.             Quickly standing each of the warriors rose with weapons in hand.  The Grey Knight Paladin's halbred began to glow, Captain Rey Rojo drew his special issue deathwatch bolter, Palatine Nataliea Harrow and Tempestor Prime Lonzo Wilkinson upholstered their plasma pistols the coils beginning to glow orange , the Frateris bodyguard activated their chainblades, and Celestian Sacrescent Bodyguards charged

The Enemy does not sleep, nor shall we. - Chapter II part 3

"So as everyone is here, it is time to begin," said Inquisitor Lord Gregor Von Hal.      "Since it is your world, Governor Corvin Augulant, tell us what you know about the situation on Khymara Prime," asked Inquisitor Lord Von Hal.      "Our last report, the Adeptus Arbites, have reported multiple incidents of mysterious military grade incendiary devices used in building ruins, source unknown. The Local Enforcers have reported multiple encounters of extremely violent gang fig

The Enemy does not sleep, nor shall we. - Chapter II part 2

"Distinguish guests, please allow me to introduce, Astropath Varne Eckza, Commissar Kiera Lynx, Primaris Psyker Sasha Checkik," announced Trusted Acolyte Bella Ezriciore, as red robed figure entered the room walking with a cane, along with, a blonde female in black coat, hat, with a saber on her hip and a bald female, walking with a staff, in black jacket and black fatigues, and a silver psychic hood.        Astropath Eckza sat next to Ship Captain Augustius Samic, while Commissar Lynx

Vererable Brother Akheron - the 'Unyeilding'

"…and here we have not only a great example of the work you must undertake in order to keep our Chapter at fighting capacity, but an exemplar of our Chapter’s values.  This is Venerable Brother Akheron – now, you may have heard amongst some of our Brothers who have bestowed upon him the title the 'Illfortuned'.  From his first engagement as a line Intercessor – fighting to drive the Orks from our home Sector, where he lost an arm and leg to a crude Greenskin mechanised suit, it is true he has su

Call to Arms 2025: Building a Monster

Firstly, apologies for the radio silence since my last blog, which was also the first in a long while. Life is hectic and depression looms large.   Secondly, this was supposed to be up last night (Call to Arms Eve) but as I don't normally post progress reports till a week after, I figured it was okay.   I briefly mentioned my intent to magnetise a hive tyrant for the event, the centrepiece of my vow, and really, the whole army at this point. So, how did I get on?

What my first vow for CtA25 will look like

Hi Folks,   While the countdown to CtA25 launch date is slowly but surely reducing, it has been time to revisit my list of stuff available for being enlisted. As I am still in the queue for some bases ordered, stuff I need in order to progress on my Corsairs kitbashes (a contribution likely to reach 30/35 pts easily within a more global 70 pts and something of Aeldarii) I have decided to phase my vows in a different order.   The first key decision is to go Drukhari. And
