    Wrapping Wreckas

    By zulu.tango

Hit the throttle on the Wreckas last week. I've been painting pretty slowly this year all things considered, decided to change that with this project. Finished up free-hand on a few items, got the squigs painted up, did the bases and oil washes last week resulting in a final project I'm pretty happy with!    I dug out some of the leftover terrain bits I had from the sector imperialis/Chalnath terrain. I put a fine terrain paste around those bits and then put in some sand to act as larg

    XIVth Legion build

    By W.A.Rorie

So am I back from Indiana. I have to head back to move In-Laws into a Retirement Center, in a few weeks. And of course everything goes sideways at work moment I get back. So hobby time has been non existence. Silver Lining is LGS not get Saturnine until Monday, so I can get everything I need to do first i.e. my XIXth Legion and Exorcists  Call to Arms Vows, that I have not started. And won't have time this weekend.   I did start on building one of My XIVth Legion Commanders, not sure w

    Square Pants Bob

    By Bouargh

Hi Folks,   Today’s blog entry is a little bit specific as it deals with something different from my usual inputs: instead of reporting hobbying progress, I will talk about a trail I did for a new technique (à la TITH – i.e. something that is not new in general but new for me).     The technique is often reported on purpose of adding details and create battle damages or war-torn marks on miniatures. But beyond painting damages, the sponge might be used on purpose of

    Jagieŀŀo inspects their prizes

    By GSCUprising

The Resistance have finally captured the war machines they believe they require to make their stand.   Brutus, the Malcador, reliable, dependable the spine of their battleline. She will not fail them. She will hold the line, her battlecannon roaring, her sponsons blazing as she paves the way for the Resistance's advance. The Iron Duke, his twin Earthshaker cannons blasting holes in the enemy's fortifications. He guards those retreating and the wounded behind his massive blast shield

Kaśnyk investigates

Apologies for the lack of updates over the past few weeks. Had a few things going on I won't burden you with. Now, it is time to return to the sciroccos and the sands of Prawa V. For context, I've already finished this story and we're about 1/3 of the way through. This is the first draft, so any and all constructive criticism is most welcome. I've not yet returned to it to revise for the second draft, so am open to ideas. (Yes, @W.A.Rorie, that includes your mini-Napolean complex Cyclops.)

The Forge of Silence opens - the Campaign finale!

Yesterday at my local gaming group, Framhammer we played a big team game, the finale to 'The Forge of Silence' Narrative Crusade campaign I've been running. This game saw three teams - Imperial, Votann and Necrons - face-off across two game areas; the first a pretty big 132"x60" table (3 standard 40k tables joined together ), the second a 'sort of' Boarding Actions type of affair.      The first area was on the surface of Rostokhar III, where the campaign was fought; narrati

Evil gooses. And armed to teeth.

Hi folks.   It is done. These Scourges couldn't stay WIP for too long. I took oportunity of some free time on Saturday to complete the bodies and put final glue touch. I end up with enough models to build up 2 squads, distributing the HW between these. I preview deployments with a anti-tank tooled up squad and an anti-infantery/multi-purpose squad. Assault weapons were kept as spare parts to kit bash some Corsairs from all these extra Guardians bodies I have stored. But this will

Incursor Druht

With this unit, I bought the Phobos Strike Team KT box rather than the Infiltrators/Incursors dual kit. I very much recommend the former. Its bits give the otherwise bland models a proper SM feeling, particularly as seen with the Druht leader. I've never really been a big fan of Phobos since I reached hobby 'maturity'. I don't mind how they executed the tacticool look, but the basic troops are lacking on ornamentation without the upgrade sprue.    With the Haywire Mine guy, I brought out

Shrinking Pile of Shame

Hi Folks,   As some may have read in my previous entries (in this Blog or another) I've moved from my previous location to a new one a couple of months ago. It has been a big opportunity to sort out all bitz, spare parts, unassemnblied, unpainted and unboxed stuff I had in my numerous closets and crates. As my journey to clean my Pile of Shame started during Lock down, I sincerly though I had done most of the job already. Most maybe not in reality but a serious part surely. H

Ornithology

Hi Folks,   I did not plan painting my scourges right now, yet I couldn't help but starting them, mainly for lack of primer rattlecan: I cannot prime anything ang the spures of the scourges were already primed a while ago (Once upon time in a Realm far far away...).    If I set back the true reason of getting these scourge I can list 2 which arrive close at the end of the race: 1. Getting spare parts for kit bashing COrsairs from Guardians body: Special weapons and Carab

Phase 2 - Game 2 (Ouch...)

Opponent - Space Marines (Vanguard) Mission - Strategic Strike   No pictures or real report for this battle, it was a major drubbing. Xaphan and Chosen shot up in the first turn (forgot how many weapons a Repulsor has), Dark Pacts failed for pretty much everything turn 1/2 (managed to half-kill my Predator with two max mortal fails), but my Raptors and bikes did do their Agenda actions so at least I went out sort of on top...   Forgotten lose the battle, 13-5 (Forgotten

Crusade - Game 7 - Practical Archaeology

CRUSADE GAME 7 - TAU VS ELDAR It always starts so well.   We've settled into a two-match Crusade day per month right now, which isn't a lot, but it's better than nothing. We're (almost) all 30-somethings with full time jobs, so it's tricky to get a free weekend. Still, it's more 40K than I've played before we started doing Crusades, so I'll not complain.    Game 7 was against James' Eldar, and it was a damn close one! We absolutely mauled each other over the co

Aether Sailing - Part IV - And now comes the Raider

Hi Folks.   Although I did not benefit from the bank holiday at 100% (Being in a new position I have no day off allowed to complete and extend such vacationnal opportunities atm) I managed to complete the painting of the Raider in a very short time span. I am slowly recovering the production rhythm I had last year at the same date, before moving and losing my hobby space. Temperatures raising allowed me to invade the green house set next to the hhouse, although I shall store my paints

Aether Sailing - Part III - Ravager

Hi Folks,   Even I've started my test model on a Raider, I slowly but surely switched to the Ravager before completion of the former. My vehicle hunter has therefore arrived to port COmpletion earlier than the troop carrier.   This kit has been complicated to assemble once came the moment of the sponsons. By prepainting I affected most of thicknesses for stems and grooves because of too thick layers. Some assemblies required therefore removing paint and or cutting a little bi

The Galgaliem and the Harbonah- Point of the Sword and Knife in the Back

Galgaliem Hunter Cadres They ride machine-steeds of onyx and steel. They are swift and terrible, quickly sending bolts and melta blasts into the face of the enemy before slamming home with chainswords roaring. They are the Galgaliem, the prideful hunters and scouts of the Forgotten.    Long have they ridden their motorcycles, experienced bodies as one with the thundering mounts. They are the heirs to the old knights of Dead Caliban, to the nomadic warriors of Old Terra. It is thei

Tabletop Battlefield Basics Defense Line

As an advanced defensive position or as encampment security perimeter, this very quick to build basic terrain set will find lots of uses on your tabletop. Add security to your Communication Tower,  Landing Platform or Tower Control. Or use them as forward defensife perimeter for your Fortification Wall or Silo Formation.    There are lots of uses for this set and i think, like the Containers, it is basic accessory that should be available to choose from when creating an immersive battl

Aether Sailing - Part II

Hi folks,   Work has progressed these days. Both hulls and sails are now done for the Raider and the Ravager.    The raider is closing to completion, with all main parts done, except the crew. The sailors operating this assault barge are about 50% done, with all base colours applied; detailing will take more time, especially the weapons as I tried new tricks, a.k.a. not painting their tools of death in a single colour... It is a process. So it requires time.

Mødet med nomaderne - Meeting with the nomads

Firstly, my apologies for any errors in my Danish. I am far better at Polish! I hope these three passages help to bring to life the different waves of settlers who arrived on Prawa V over the centuries. I also hope it deepens the mystery of Mona a little. As always, comments, criticism, etc. most welcome. Thank you.   If you're interested in pronunciation, it's Jagiełło (yah - gee - eh - woh - soft G), Stenrik (steen - rik), Kasnyk (cash - nik - yes, I am aware I've missed out the accent

We need to talk about Marek

The vault walls were old steel, streaked with oxidation and reinforced with thick slabs of desert-cut stone. Lamplight traced long shadows across maps, dataslates, and supply manifests scattered over a folding table at the centre of the room.   “They found him slumped in the runner,” she said, voice soft. “Or, at least, what remained. No one heard the shot.”   “They weren’t meant to.” Jagiełło didn’t look up from the slate he was reviewing. He paused. "The round was designed

Aether sailing - Part I

Hi Folks,   It has been a while since I touched to my Dark kins.   My initial motivation was guided by the reinforcement of my (old, very old) Aeldarii army. My plan was to go Ynnarii and add a tactical depth brought by the deep striking Dark Eldars plus some signature units such as Scourges and Mandrakes. The plan was blown away by the Release of the Aeldarii codex. Which left me with some minis unbuilt and waiting in the pile of shame.    I decided it was tim

Phase 1 - The outline

This is a quick outline of what happened during Phase 1 of the campaign. Pics are there, but not great (apologies, I am terrible), and this is more of a stream of concious/AAR that I did for the campaign rather than anything really organized or story-like. I will work on some sort of in-character updates later.     Phase 1 Special campaign rules - Started off at 1k points games, increasing by 250 every two games. Start off with 6XP given to a single character (Xaphan took all

Patrol day 2

Grand Master De Sonnec and Inquisitor Rork, meet with Sgt Magdalene of the Langham 13th. Sgt Magdalene was grizzled old Sgt with white hair, and no nonsense attitude.    The first stop on the patrol was speaking with an Imperial Fist Captain Eaton at the “Tower”. The “Tower” was more of heavily armed and armored Fortress in True Sons of Dorn fashion. The “Tower” was able to defend the entire city if needed. And was also right against the River crossing the city    Next was a vis

The Aftermath

Lieutenant Kasnyk leaned forward, monocle interface flickering green as he parsed the packet’s structure. A transmission, incomplete. Encrypted but within protocol. Origin: Marek Sobczak, Sergeant. Timestamp: early hours, local time. Location: near the southern ridge. That alone should have been routine.   But Marek was dead.   The initial report had come through the PDF relay chain an hour earlier — Sergeant Sobczak found in his runner, chest perforated by unknown fire. No w

The First Patrol.

After donning his suit of Terminator armor, Grand Master Wilhelmina De Sonnec of the 2nd Brotherhood of Grey Knights met with Ordo Malleus Inquisitor Sasha Rork for a morning meal.   ”We have a long day ahead of us, so please have some nourishment, Grand Master,” requested Inquisitor Rork.   ”yes , ma’am,” replied Grand Master De Sonnec.   Inquisitor Rork briefed Grand Master De Sonnec on the plans of the day. Routine patrol of important areas with the walls of the
