Hi, first post. So, I've been looking at True Scale Marines for a while now especially the old kit from Chapter House and Tsuros unfinished Space Wolves. I chose Blood Angels because they are ally as :cuss and TrueScale Death Company has not been done yet. We are at ground level here, this is my first draft. I'm making some shoulder pads and thinking about making the arms myself and :cussing around with GW stuff never looks as clean as if you where to make it from scratch. + I avoid any copy right infringement if I ever go into production of true scale (which more people should do). WHAT I REALLY WANT TO KNOW IS WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE SCALE, SYTLE and any criticism you have. This is the point to mess around with stuff. Thanks!

  9. Well i took me quite some time to post some pics of my minis in these hallowed halls. I started my Word Bearers several years ago (around the time of the 4th edition Codex) and they have been a project that has developed since then. I have a nasty habit of allowing myself to be far too easily distracted. As a result many of my marines are in a kind of 'painting limbo'. Almost finished but not quite. This is the main reason i have decided to start this thread in the WIP forum. Hopefully it will give me the motivation i need to continue building on my WBs and their allies. Thanks These Possessed are actually the first minis i painted for the army. Sorry about the poor photo quality. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0170.jpg?t=1308475920 My Berzerkers were the second squad i painted. As soon i got my hands on the Berzerkers kit i knew i had to fix the old and out of date arms and weapons. For this i used a combination of CSM and marauder arms with the newer CSM weapons. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0109.jpg Flamer havocs. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0178.jpg http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0179.jpg?t=1308473468 My Dark Apostle 'true scale' attempt. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/P1010316.jpg?t=1308473795 I intended to give the Apostle a terminator body guard...but got side tracked by A D-B's Blood Reaver...and so i have just made a start at a 'true scale' NL. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN0144.jpg Anyway thanks for looking
  10. “It is easy to volunteer to die. Instead, you will endure extreme pain and hardship with unflinching resolve.” -Avitus Varro, Academy Headmaster, Invectors Chapter Brother Gnaeus Corto, Squad Lepidus, 5th Company, Invectors Cited for Ingenuity and Valor, Boarding Action, 997.M41 http://images.dakkadakka.com/s/i/gallery/img/2013/9/2/533596.png When I was kid in the 90s playing RT and 2nd Edition, I had always wanted to have my own Battle Company of Marines. Problem was, I never had the money available to just flat out waste on frivolous, excessive Space Marines. However now, as an adult, I find myself better funded. However, it would be too easy to just buy 100 Space Marines. Anyone with cash to blow can have 100 Space Marines. Nope, I'm going to convert them all. All of them. Everything in my army will be converted, somehow, no matter how small. Very quickly, I decided that my project would address my long standing problems with Space Marine models:They are too short, obviously. Space Marines should be 7-7.5 foot super-soldiers. The GW human figures are probably just too tall, but too late to fix that; gotta make the Marines bigger. Marines need to be loaded for bear and look like they could actually fight a war. So all of my figures would have ammunition pouches, grenades, combat knives, etc, in a realistic configuration. All the Marines should have helmets because no good Marine would be without his helmet. It's just dumb. Encased in nearly impenetrable ceramite, only to leave you nugget exposed, and lose all the life support, communications, imaging and targeting enhancements of the helmet? Silly. Also, the Battle Company had to be "Counts As", WYSIWYG for the all existing codex lists (why make it easy?). My last challenge was to only use Mk VII parts, but also ensure that every model had a character of its own. This of course is not going to be easy with a whopping fifty two bolter Marines in a Battle Company, and forcing them to wear helmets. So, there you go. No mixing and matching armor marks. Too easy. No bare heads. Too easy. I'm taking away pretty much any shortcuts for the maximum amount of posing and conversion challenge. So I set to work, with some plastic card, and a dream. A lot of these early ones are old photos of rough prototypes that I didn't fully sand, or gap fill, etc. Excuse any rough early modeling problems. At first, I wasn't sure how tall I wanted them to be. So I went with 1mm extensions to the thighs (which I thought were too short anyway) and an extra .5mm at the waist. The results were decent: http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/11/24/298246_md-Space%20Marines,%20True%20Scale.jpg The tall walking stance makes him a bit taller than he actually is, but it was a good start. Next to him are Hasslefree's McKenzie, a 2E metal Cadian, and Sgt Bylkow (one of of my favorite Squat models). Left his weapon off for the detail. Decided this wasn't tall enough. So I moved up to 1mm at the waist. This was starting to give the height I wanted, but I only had about 25 or so walking legs, and they aren't cheap on EBay, and well, if they were all walking it would be a bit homogenous. So the firing stance models had to retain height too. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/12/9/303023_md-Space%20Marines,%20True%20Scale.jpghttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/12/9/303021_md-Space%20Marines,%20True%20Scale.jpg http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/12/13/304557_md-Space%20Marines,%20True%20Scale.jpg So far, so good. Time to start working on some more individual models. This guy was posed to be pulling a grenade off of his belt. But instead of using a pre-posed hand, I cut and repositioned one of the bolter support arms, bent the fingers closed around a grenade separated from the grenade bundles. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/1/11/315360_md-Space%20Marines,%20To%20Much%20Extra%20Stuff%20On%20Them.jpg Bolter Marines: http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/1/11/315248_md-Space%20Marines,%20To%20Much%20Extra%20Stuff%20On%20Them,%20True%20Scale.jpg http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/1/11/315249_md-Space%20Marines,%20To%20Much%20Extra%20Stuff%20On%20Them,%20True%20Scale.jpg Arms have all been cut and re-positioned, for two reasons. The standard "hip firing" bolter cradle formed by the arms in stock form looks dumb to me. I was a weapons trainer and attached to infantry units in the Marines. And second, I wanted some more dynamic looking poses, not just the more realistic ones. The metal arm is from an old Devastator sergeant. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/1/13/315745_md-Space%20Marines,%20To%20Much%20Extra%20Stuff%20On%20Them,%20True%20Scale.jpg I always liked the old Auspex, in theory. But the bit for it seems way too big and way too clunky. I thought about a flip up wrist display. More on this guy later. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/1/30/323289_md-Space%20Marines,%20To%20Much%20Extra%20Stuff%20On%20Them,%20True%20Scale.jpg Of course, I learned quickly that un-drilled barrels were out of the question, so that was rectified. Some of the models look like they're standing weird, but that is actually intentional so I will have to create more complex bases for them. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/1/30/323287_md-Space%20Marines,%20To%20Much%20Extra%20Stuff%20On%20Them,%20True%20Scale.jpg Now I needed some special weapons. But the standard ones are just too big for the kinds of close and dirty fighting my Space Marines will be known for. I present the shortened Cerceus-Pattern flamers and meltaguns: http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/2/20/331471_md-Special%20Weapon%20Marines.jpg http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/2/20/331472_md-Space%20Marines,%20True%20Scale.jpg All of the Special Weapons carrying Marines are modular. I've also created custom, deeper pouches for them to simulate extra melta canisters/flamer fuel, etc. Some more Marines: http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/3/19/343343_md-Draw.jpg This guy is in the middle of drawing his combat blade. Arm cut and the the fingers bent to be in the process of tightening around the grip. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/3/19/343353_md-Troopers.jpg http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/3/19/343351_md-HBolter.jpg I have decided that the heavy weapons Marines will have the helmets with the extra targeter mounted on it. Plus, I decided the Heavy Botlers will have box mags instead of the giant belt fed apparatus. This is an early version, and I have since modified the box mag to be better looking. Plus, there will be Bolter Marines from the rest of the squads who will be carrying extra heavy weapon ammo (missiles or bolter mag boxes). This one is the newest. A severely in-progress WIP. I wanted to inflect some more Rogue Trader era brutality to this army. I'm a huge fan of the darker, more brutal Space Marines of the old days. This one needs a ton of work, obviously, but here's the start. The Tau helmet mounted on the shoulder pad came from the Chaos tank sprue, and was clipped and filed down to match the shoulderpad contours. The idea of a mounted helmet came from the multitude of RT era drawings with severed heads. But I didn't want it to be too brutal and cross into Chaos tainted territory. I feel the Chaplain, once he's been modeled up, will be keeping a close eye on Brother Brutus. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/3/19/343345_md-Brutality.jpg http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/3/19/343352_md-Brutus.jpg The severed head is a Wood Elf sorceress head, the hand is the Grey Knight Daemonette head hand. The Dark Eldar is a classic 3rd Edition warrior that we had piles of from the three 3rd Edition boxed sets that nobody ever bothered to assemble. The helmet is a Black Templar helmet with studs, to mix up some of the helmet appearances. Plus, I think it makes Brother Brutus look a bit more harsh and maybe a bit more unbalanced and potentially vicious. Part of the feeling I'm trying to evoke with this "army" is that of how I envision the Space Marines. These guys are seven and a half foot, functionally immortal, genetically engineered super warriors. Human, but something more than human. And something a little less. I want to illustrate a bit of brutality, and ruthlessness. Anyhow, I hope this work interests you guys. Thanks for any thoughts you guys have. Especially any criticisms, ideas you don't like, Ideas you might have, etc. I'm definitely open for anything constructive or suggestions. Heck, I might even entertain requests. Not tall enough yet though, and I was still trying to perfect their proportions. So I added another 1mm spacer to their shins. http://images.dakkadakka.com/s/i/gallery/img/2016/5/4/797652.jpg Did it work? Let's ask Leonardo Da Vinci. Update: 26 February 2014. Wow. Almost two and a half years I've been working on this. A lot of the pictures in this first post are the rough drafts of the earliest models. I cleaned up this first post, eliminating some of the rambling I originally did. The project has continued to evolve along the way, which is probably why it isn't too close to finishing. Though I am at approximately 60 Marines at this point. There has also been a fair amount of ongoing backstory and fluff for these guys. Click the chapter logo in my signature for Index Astartes: Invectors. I think you'll enjoy it. They're like Ultramarines, but shady galactic space jerks. 13. So I've been bashing my head against a wall trying to put together a Primaris army and not getting far because it's not going how I wanted so decided to return in my main love of making Space Marines...truescaling and to flex my mental lore gymnastic muscles. I have a huge number of ideas floating around these guys and initially just want to make a Crusade force of just a Captain and two squads of Astartes for fun. So far I have ten so very nearly completed except for a few bits of cleaning up here and there and sculpting over the arms to make the armour completed. I also have seven Mk III guys but I would really like to make these as Iron Warriors. I was also briefly considering making a true scale Primaris but optically GW already beat me too it with Lieutenant Amulius. While he is stood more upright than the slightly more squatting Intercessors he is actually taller by nearly a head if you were to straighten them out. Removing the base and leaving the soles of the boots a little thick helps the illusion as well. So what is the plan? I am not sure to be perfectly honest but I do have a rough roadmap detailed below that I may or may not use. Either way I have enough parts to assemble a full company of Mk IV, MkVI, MkVII or Mk VIII marines including all the main classes which could be fun. Right now I am focusing on the first thirty in Mk IV of which ten are nearly complete and another ten are fully under way. Novus Astartes. I like this idea quite a bit that I have been mulling over. During the Heresy I can imagine a lot of Q or X Branch organisations working on game changing projects and I have this fun little idea of a tech savant working on advanced Firstborn marines. I see this experimentation akin to the likes of Corax working on his clones or the tweaks of existing things that lead to the creation of the Vindicator and Sabre tanks. The concept is based on a Perpetual I've created by the name of Isla Antaeus who worked alongside the likes of Amar Astartes on the creation of the first marines. The idea is that Isla is forgettable in the extreme, while people are aware of her presence in her absence over time they completely forget she existed. Imagine recounting talking to someone at a party to a friend, you can recall vaguely talking to someone but not the conversation or who they were or what they looked like. After a short time the memory fades completely and your brain fills in the gap with something or someone else so if you attempted to recount the story again the details would be vague and incorrect at best. The idea is she has existed for millennia like some of the other Perpetuals so despite her youthful appearance she is incredibly old but cursed by her gift. Now my idea is that she has created a harness that she wears at all times that allows her to focus this ability and control it to the extent of appearing to be normal. She has found she can also manipulate this field generated to edit reality ever so slightly which allows her to pass through history forgotten and unseen. Potentially she has incorporated some Blackstone into it's design that allows slight dimensional manipulation. Having since attained a respectable rank as a senior Gene-Adept in the new empire many are calling the Imperium she has been approached to create a new type of Astartes. While this is not in any way shape or form anything like the Primaris project it is a covert attempt to create Astartes who's loyalty are absolute about three years into the Heresy. Using Initiates from the [REDACTED] Legion utilising advanced cybernetics, mind scrubbing and hypno-therapy she creates a small force of Astartes that fight silently in the background of the Heresy. So in all likelihood you'd have the likes of Alpharius with a hand in this as well and rather than the Novus Astartes have personalities like the regular Astartes of the Great Crusade they'd be more akin to drones where their humanity is totally stripped away and their loyalty is absolute. The idea would be that these would not be part of the later Primaris Project but instead a limited amount of the data collected would be used by Cawl during his research. In game terms it'd be Primaris marines rules for models made to look like Firstborn with Isla and her colleagues being represented by the Inquisitor rules. I may use the Raven Guard rules to best represent them, I especially like the idea that the over 18" counts in cover representing Isla's influence over her creations and the enemy not quite being able to focus on their targets. One thing I may do is have her believe Cawl cannot be trusted and present day she continues her work in secret using her Novus Astartes project to amass an army capable of resisting them should things go awry. Her logic being it was the human failings of the original Astartes that lead to the Heresy and she has come to realise Amar Astartes might have been right all along. I quite like the idea of her surname vaguely being something that someone may or may not have misremembered during the 21st Founding regarding a certain Chapter.
  14. “Artillerymen believe the world consist of two types of people; other Artillerymen and targets.” "Ultima ratio regum. (The final argument of kings)" Hello friends. Welcome to the armor depot of the 42nd Armored of the 8th Legiones Astartes. The 42nd were around since the formation of the proto-Legion, though under different name and number. Several armored companies have been folded into the 42nd throughout the course of the Crusade and Horus's rebellion. Presently, the 42nd is spread throughout several ships, attached to Battlegroup Perdition predominantly, with some elements scattered within Battlegroup Labyrinth, all within the over-arching 251st Expeditionary Fleet, "the Fleet of Judgement". The 42nd are organized into several sections, and actions will be enacted with elements from various sections working on cohesion, also in-time with other elements of Battle-companies attached to the 251st Fleet. The over-arching commander is Ger'zass the Anvil-Lord. A Terran-born astartes, an affinity for tank-doctrine saw him elevated to platoon leader. Throughout the Crusade, he went on to secure himself a position in a Lupercal super-heavy tank, before assuming overall command of the 42nd by the time that his gene-sire Lord Curze was reunited with the Legion. Ger'zass the Anvil-Lord earned his moniker amongst the 42nd through a series of tactics that crushed the seditious conglomerate in the Craulost system. A banding of local governors had pooled their allegiances and declared themselves Imperial-free and renounced all ties to the Imperium. During a parade meant to signify the union of the locals, hence-by referred to in this chronicle as Crauls, the governors had sponsored a military showing of the might of their once divided colonies. That such a powerful army would withstand the tyranny of the Emperor. It was at such a moment, with all eyes gazing at the Craul governors and their generals that Ger'zass struck. Using elements of light armor and fast striking scout elements, the Talonmaster saw opportunity to bait the confidence of the generals into cockiness, as vast amounts of their forces chased the out-numbered light-armor into a section of the city that was previously known as [REDACTED], as the armies of the Crauls pulled into the square, entire city blocks erupted with the roar of dozens of cannon and anti-material fire. Momentum lost, the Crauls attempted to reverse and exit as to regroup and retaliate. Records show that such a reaction had been anticipated, and to prevent the Craul generals from escaping, the previous light-armor struck forth from side flanks, bolstered now. Massive teleportations flared as the entirety of the companies terminator reserve teleported in, in effect sealing the fate of the Crauls. The rebels had no choice but to either face the devastation of the terminator onslaught or break themselves upon the anvil of previously concealed heavy armor. It is said that Ger'zass had personally had lifted the last living Craul general before dashing him to death against the hull of his command tank. The icon of the 42nd is an homage to a creature on their home-world, the Nostraman burrowing monoceros. A fearsome creature that although blind, is an adept underground hunter. Omnivorous, though it prefers a carnivorous diet. The creature excells at ambushing targets through its burrowed tunnels, creating vortex of earth that its prey cannot escape from, and having no escape from being gored upon its horns. The hide of the creature is intensely armored, meant to absorb any loose debris and prevent injury from accidental cave-ins. For these features, the 42nd took it upon themselves as their heraldry. An armored apex predator in its environment, striking fast and without remorse. Displaying and goring their foes upon their tanks and treads like the horn of the monoceros. http://i.imgur.com/9roKOv7.jpg http://i.imgur.com/agNZwK5.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/wFgCrf4.jpg I have a shot of a dreadnought I was making for this company too. I'm not sure if I want to grab Deredo's or Leviathans for his ancient brothers. http://i.imgur.com/fvjA3qK.jpg -edit- not sure how to scale images... Sorry if these are too big!
  15. Hello one and all!I've been in the hobby on and off for 16 something years and thought I'd make a thread for my endeavours in the ol' B&C. The Horus Heresy bandwagon hit me like a brick when it started and I've always had a soft spot for chemical warfare so picking a favourite legion was easy. I've been working on this true scale (Shoutout to Doghouse!) Death Guard army for about a year but never really bothered posting much about it. I'm aiming for about 2500 points and will see how far this leads me after that. There's lots of stuff in the works (tacticals, terminators, heavy support...) but this is all I've bothered taking pictures of at the moment. Less talk and more pics, right. First squad. http://i.imgur.com/rr9160U.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/gK1KOeJ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/XxssMSh.jpg Pimped out ride and some sense of scale. The Rhino is based on a 1/35 M113 APC if someone is wondering. http://i.imgur.com/1q8rzZ7.jpg Praetor http://i.imgur.com/IWd88zX.jpg Consul http://i.imgur.com/CHQhxUo.jpg Imperial Space Marine http://i.imgur.com/8SKNLYS.jpg That's about it for now, will post more stuff soon as things progress. I hope you enjoy them and am happy to answer any questions, C&C is always appreciated. Cheers!
  16. Greetings brothers Finally started some Deathwatch. Initially they're planned as a kill team, but I'm already considering expanding them into a small strike force for regular 40k. First miniature built was a Blood Angel Intercessor, followed by a Blackshield who also served as my paint scheme tester; I truescaled him easily enough using large bionic legs from Anvil Industry. Here he is pictured with a Carcharodon Astra void brother; and alone; and a trio shot of the completed members so far Next on the painting bench are an Imperial Fist comms specialist and an Ultramarine commander. I've also built this guy, again truescaled with Anvil legs; The Deathwatch shoulder pad is a placeholder for now as its the old style, I have the updated upgrade kit en route. I'm enjoying the project so far, C&C appreciated.
  17. ++ INCOMING TRANSMISSION ++ Brothers, the dogs of Lorgar have shown their treachery today. Let them know that the Sons of Guilliman do not fall so easily, and make them pay for their betrayal of the Emperor in blood and death. Courage and Honour! ++ END TRANSMISSION ++ Here I go again.. Hi all, with the latest Primaris release firmly cementing my 40K hobby into a 30K hobby, I've decided to start a new WIP log based on updating my old 30K Ultramarines. Originally the marines that I have recently been true-scaling were for a 40K army so that the Classic Marines didn't look too short next to any Primaris Marines I was going to get, but I have set my heart on only focusing on the 30K side of things for now as I am feeling a bit disenfranchised with the current 40K setting. Therefore, everything I have worked on this past year is being retrofitted to make a new, slightly taller, AoD Ultramarines army (still using 8th Edition rules unfortunately as my main opponent only plays 8th Edition Orks). My old topic is here for anybody interested: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328330-the-atrocity-at-calth-the-38th-company/ I decided to restart my Ultras and scrap all the old army as I was not happy with the paint job I had done on them as I have since improved, and I've always wanted to make my Marines slightly taller than standard so they don't look so short compared to Imperial Guard etc. Just to kick things off I thought I would share a few of my favourite figures that I have been working on recently, but I will share more stuff over the coming weeks as I get deeper into the project. To begin with, this is my latest iteration of my homebrew character, Centurion Jay Burgii of the 38th Company. The name Jay Burgii is a play on my own real life name. I have a habit of creating characters that are meant to represent what I would like to be in the Warhammer universe. An as of yet unnamed Chaplain A Librarian for when Guilliman eventually re-allowed them And just some regular marines to show the scale of them compared to regular marines (Note that the red lines aren't perfect but are just there so you can get the gist of the size difference) Obviously there is a lot of work to be done in filling in the gaps and smoothing out the areas that I have shoved plasticard into, but it will all eventually get finished. I currently have all the parts to make 3 10-Man Tactical Squads, a 5-man command squad, and a contemptor dreadnought. I have also got my Sicaran Battle Tank and a WIP Leviathan Dreadnought that I would like to strip to start again, but have yet to build up the courage to do so. Thank you for looking all, and I hope to give you an update in the not too distant future. I have a habit of starting WIP logs and never getting very far with them, but hopefully I can stick to it this time. In my 17 years of the hobby I have yet to complete a fully painted army of any substantial size, which is something I really need to rectify. Especially now that I have finished University and have a full time job so I can actually afford to do so. Thank you for looking, Jay
